After the rather muted tones of 'never' I felt like going a bit overboard in the other direction and produce something really bright and cheerful. It's the first time in a while that I've produced something purely in Photoshop without some photo or render as a starting point (a few of the extra details around the edge were done in Illustrator though).I also wanted to make something like this for DC's Deluxe packs as the whole feel of deluxe was colourful and vibrant in my mind. It would have been a shame not to have at least one eye candy piece there :}

Is it a deliberate remblance to a bird, or was it so named because you saw that in the finished work? I presume the title is a reference to Poe's The Raven (" 'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door; Only this, and nothing more."). Excellent work, and , if I'm right, great literary reference.

Yeah I actually made it look a lot less bird like at the end but there are a few references, the title, the small bird by the text, the font being 'birdman' etc.

I love how the cheeriness I get from that crazy little bird is brought down by that one line from "The Raven." The melancholy tone emanates from the black background and seems almost to swallow up the bird. But that's just me.

Wow, I didn't know PS could do things like this. Do you need CS to warp things like that or would I be able to use the same technique in PS7? Beautiful stuff.

Care to share them? I've never seen that kind of swirled thing before. Do you use vectors or the liquify tool at all? Don't have to tell me if it's a secret

No secrets really, I mostly use the Transform tool and some custom actions to repeat the same distortion over and over again. Then it's just about choosing bits I like and colouring and arranging them.
