Description This is the walktrough/tutorial for my Alice in Wonderland themed drawing ' in a world of my own '

I'm not very good at making tutorials but because i've got so many requests i decided to save one of my works in steps so i could explain a bit more on how i work.

There will be more 'specific' tutorials in the future on how to create specific objects, colors etc...

I hope some of you will find this helpful.
Feel free to ask me any questions if you have them
I will gladly answer them for you!

This tutorial is, off course, not meant to learn how to 'copy' my style. I just want people to understand how they can make their vector art more interesting.

My question is what do you save it as before you upload? Everytime I save a vector - it rasterizes - halp?

hmm.. can you tell me what vector pict is?? Is it same with digital painting or not??
Actually I don't really understand what people called vector art is...

CalamityWinter In reply to Anrachman [2018-12-23 07:06:36 +0000 UTC]

Not raster picture - meaning no/very little pixel different. For example

vector-conversions.com/images/…

Vector images are scalable - you can zoom in without any distortion from pixels
Raster doesn't do that

Thank you for the tutorial! I love vector art and have been doing more of it myself. It's interesting to see how you did this. I notice you use a lot of transparent shapes for shading and highlights, plus a lot of gradients. Do you ever use blended shapes? Thank you again!

Your style using vectors, is amazing... I've tried using vectors through Illustrator and found it very tricky indeed, especially when it gets busy with so many shapes on the page ^^. I do enjoy using the path tool in Photoshop though, it's really handy for creating crisp outlines. I had to give you a WOW as your work is as you say, very dynamic. ^^ You should come up with a childrens' book or something... kids would love your style..

The title is 'tiza' and the text is 'insaniburger'
They are both free fonts

This was more of a tutorial on your art process rather than a vector art tutorial, even if you use a vector program to create it. The title was misleading. The art is very nice, but I wouldn't recommend this to someone. The most interesting part was starting with the face, but, personally, I don't look at the face first; I look at the colors and the overall shapes of a piece. Still, I get what you're saying and I'm sure many do look at the face first.

shiropanda In reply to EarthboundCelestial [2011-06-03 10:36:58 +0000 UTC]

True. It's about how i create my work and how i work with shading etc.
I was assuming the people who would use this already have a basic knowledge about illustrator and on how to create vector shapes/use the pen tool.
Thanks for the constructive criticism though!

lollidolly In reply to shiropanda [2011-06-26 17:35:28 +0000 UTC]

I agree with Earthbound, nice to read but would like to read like more of a step by step process... Is illustrator that different from photoshop? I've only ever used photoshop aha. I want to learn more!

shiropanda In reply to lollidolly [2011-06-27 09:43:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
I think i agree with you guys.
I might make another 'tutorial' in the future with more detailed steps!
Photoshop and Illustrator are totally different programs but because they are both by adobe they lay-out and tools are easy to find if you know have worked with one of them. Illustrator is the only program to create proper vectors with though.

Ah thanks, I may have to look into illustrator in the future then
