Description Woah where have I been, and where did this 3d art come from.

Good question.
Im growing rather tired of space related themes, and I needed a breakthrough piece into the 3d realm. Ive always wanted to learn it ever since I started 2d art, and its just taken an accumulation of all the skills with playing around with 3dsmax.

This is the first true render scene ive ever done, much less anything in 3d other than some asteroids.
Im sure there are some things not that great about it, but its a start in terms of me expanding my horizons in other media.

Hope you like it.

Er, I've seen that before... don't remember if it was a concept (painting) in your gallery or if I saw you post it somewhere else.

Anyway, this does look really good Looks more like a photo than a 3d model as well, which is good. Sorry I can't really give much good critique though

Wouldn't hurt to see in a different angle... cuz in that way, it could pretty well be a planar with a cool texture =/ looks cool though

The texturization of this scene is absolutely perfect. Weirdly enough, i think there's something wrong with the window part, i don't know what, but it "looks computer" to my eye. perhaps it's the window ... either way, it's a damn great job

I know nothing about this genre (genre? I'm meaning renders, etc.) but I find this amazingly well done. If realism is your goal, know that I've tried to get this realistic a feel and texture to my photographs and succeed rarely to get something that looks this real.

Truly awesome work - stunning for a first work in the style I'd say.

crits:

The shadow its too dark, check your GI settings.
The reflection in the window its too high, maybe low a little the IOR of the glass

I dont know if u said before, but it looks like Vray , right?

cheers , keep working!

No this was actually just the 3dstudio max render.
I tried doing it in mental ray but it would just crash and crash.
So i just ended up doing that.

I hadnt discovered vray at that time.

Whether it be the pores of the stone wall, the cables stretching out across the wall, or the glare of the sun on the window, the details really bring this picture to life. It's hard to tell if this place is a home or a prison between the paned window and the almost hidden barred window. The glimpse of the sunny day kind of gives us a glimmer of hope onto the otherwise dreary weatherbeaten scene. I'd like to point out that this picture is still two dimensional.. but that's a natural limitation that only sculpture or architecture, etc. could overcome. I still find challenge in trying to mimic reality by creating a fake depth. It's the basics, but it can take forever to master.

amazing detail, I thought this was a photo at first glance. the only thing that put it off, I think, is the lack of shadows on the right corner and the pole... though that might just be me. Keep up the good work and keep trying new things.

Very good first delve into the 3d realm. I wish mine had been this good Brilliant grunge mapping.

Suggestions:

- Lower the bias (Tools > Lightlister) on shadowcasting for the light(s). I can't remember what the default is, but cutting it in half should be good.
- On the larger pipe on the right, it doesn't appear to be casting shadows. I don't know if it's real geometry or not, but if it's a texture, try painting one in there. Really, it should be geometry though. Renderable splines are your friend.
- On the smaller wiring, you could probably get away with just drawing/painting in shadows. Or applying a bump map. If you've already got a bumpmap, crank it up a little.
- I'd like to see a counterlight for reflective shadows, actually placed underneath the world, directly opposite of your main light and set to about .2 intensity. I think that'd really kick home the realism.

Hope this helps!

PS - I realize there's nothing in my gallery that lends credibility to my critique, but trust me: I've done this a time or two, lol
