Description
Woah where have I been, and where did this 3d art come from.Good question.
Im growing rather tired of space related themes, and I needed a breakthrough piece into the 3d realm. Ive always wanted to learn it ever since I started 2d art, and its just taken an accumulation of all the skills with playing around with 3dsmax.
This is the first true render scene ive ever done, much less anything in 3d other than some asteroids.
Im sure there are some things not that great about it, but its a start in terms of me expanding my horizons in other media.
Hope you like it.

i adore it i truly thought it was a photograph, and a very artistically skilled one at that
congrats, you seem to have a natural talent for this, not to mention an eye for detail!
the only thing I would change in this picture is to make the window less perfectly shiney, to match the rest, or maybe to have a crack through it but im just looking for something to c&c really, this rocks!

No no its fine. It seems odd that the window is so perfect while everything else is weathered. Good point.

hmmm.... may i ask something?
is the window real? or a creation of yours?
the shadows and depth tricks seem tricky... not so real....
good work

From my understanding it is real since it was referenced from a stock photo.

Wow. Just wow.
Actually, would you mind a quick question: were the textures taken from photographs?

I used a mixture of total textures from [link] and rust/corrosion stock/textures I found on the net.

wow... This is unique in so many ways, but primarily because this isn't what you'd expect from a 3d artist! I thought, like many others apparently, that it was a photo because I don't see something like that and think 3d. I thought it was a well composed and beautiful photo, but instead it's a well composed and beautiful 3d render. Splendid, man, splendid!

This image really shows off your attention to detail, especially in the area of textures. As others have mentioned, the texture work here is exquisite and is accented wonderfully by the lighting rig that you've employeed for this particular scene. To extend on that, your modelling shows a good deal of attention to your subject and really makes the image pop. All in all, this shows you've got talent in the world of 3D, continue the great work.

I really like this. The colors and composition are very nice. When I get a hold of a color printer, my print this out and paint it in watercolors?

That pretty awsome. I thougd it whas a picture taken istead of 3d, but now I read that it is 3d art...... yes your right...... I also am a bit tired of making spaceart and I am doing some tutorials on 3ds max which a pretty funny.
Good work!

Although I will say one thing. The pipe in the right side of the frame seems disected, as if it doesn't belong. Now, the top part, where it curves to meet the roof, is blended, but the lower portions where the wall darkens needs some touching up.

Beautiful work on this one, I could have sweared it was a photo! The texturing is perfect, you really captured the grungy feeling on the wall of course but also more subtly on the blinds. The blue sky reflected by the window also adds a nice contrast to the picture. The only thing that seems a bit out of place is the pipe running along the right side, it seems a little too untouched by the weathering towards the bottom.

Really Awesome...
Your Texture are superb.
This is why I need to learn moreso of 3dsmax.
Now for the part that "I" find off.
The drain pipe feels flat from the bottom of the alge-mold crack down to the last staple in the rusted stucco.

Even though the texture of the wall leaves the eye absolutely impressed it might be a little bit exagerated. Another problem I see is the water-watchama-call-it (sorry can't find the english word now for the tube to let water fall off the roof), it has a fake-cartoonish look, the window wood might also have a similar problem. The reflections on the window instead are absolutely wonderful, very well done.

The colors are well-matched, its very creative with a lot of small details to look at. But, as mentioned upper, the shadow of the metal pipe is missing and the dark square looks a little blury on the right side. In overall it is an amazing job.

I am glad to see that you are trying something new. and you definately succeeded. I have tried similar things before, but it's been very hard. your use of materials is very good, you got that bumpy/dirty/cracked up look of such walls...the bump on the wooden window could be heavier though.
that metal tube in the right need to throw some shadow onto the wall, otherwise it's not looking realistic.
btw, how many polys has this scene?

6 million???
wow
do you have a wireframe render? but well, I guess I would only see a white mass then... try to use not too much segments, and subdivide only the parts/polys/edges where you need more details. like for example on borders, windows and such...the maps should create the necessairy amount of detail

but your result looks very good
I have to learn a lot myself, but I have no 3rd button mouse at the moment, and using max without is really a pain....among other projects I was planning to do something similar to yours, and also have a loft project running with a friend.
by the way, I downloaded a few of your asteroids, and tried to model/texture something similar several times (since I don't like to use others work in my own), but never got it...you did a great job on them.
how long are you using max already?
