I'm not sure what went wrong.. and you seem to be really good at photoshop.. so... I scanned my picture in, but it won't let me click anything in my channels or layers. It has them all locked. Do you know what's wrong with them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

beatnikcrab In reply to krispykreme1468 [2006-12-04 23:43:13 +0000 UTC]

that happened to me once. it may be in the wrong format. meaning it might be a bitmap file or something. go to Image > Mode > RGB, and then you should be okay. you can choose another format instead of RGB, but that's the most common one. if you're sending something out for professional printing then you'll want to use CMYK, as that's the format that most printshops use. hope this helps! :3

Thanks for your help. I figured that out a little while ago. Although.. I think I might prefer plain old pencil and paper to photoshop.

Invariance [2006-08-11 18:36:19 +0000 UTC]

Hey Shiro ^_^ I dunno if you've tried this, but it might make your life a little easier.

At the part in Photoshop, near the end of the inking process where you select the lineart layer and paste it twice, instead of doing that and having to waste time realigning the layers, just select the layer and drag it down over the new layer button. This should create an exact copy of the layer you've selected, only it'll already be in place. No realigning needed.

:huggle:

Hope this helps you out some... not that you need help x_x your a photoshop master~!

Awesome tutorial <3 from an equally awesome artist...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

shirotsuki In reply to Genny-Raskin [2006-08-10 17:20:44 +0000 UTC]

ah.. well, you can still kind of ink in that program too. you'll need a fuzzy round at a small brush radius, and be sure to set your options to smoothing. i think that would work, but im not sure!

Genny-Raskin In reply to shirotsuki [2006-08-17 15:58:25 +0000 UTC]

I tried to do something like that, it seems that it came out nice, for the first time trying to make a lineart out of art that I made by pencil, by tablet on my comp.
Thanks for the tutorial and the tips.

btw... what is the shortcut key to change from pencil to eraser?

shirotsuki In reply to Jsea [2006-07-17 21:46:24 +0000 UTC]

whoohoo alright! another shortcut addict! pencil to eraser? in open canvas, if you hit A, you get pencil, and if you hit F, you get eraser ^ ^. very close by, easy access! aaaand sadly, no i dont.. i didn't start inking digitally untill i got a tablet.

question....will this work on open canvas 1.1......?

coz my open canvas3 plus isnt working well, and open canvas 4 well just finished the trail.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shirotsuki In reply to Devious-Khan [2006-07-11 18:37:43 +0000 UTC]

im not sure if it would.. i dont remember if you can save your file as a PSD in open canvas 1.1, but i dont think you can.. so you wouldn't be able to bring it into adobe. i mean if you saved it as a JPEG there are some ways of going about it, you'd open the JPEG in photoshop, then pase it into a new file, you could float the lines and get the same effect as if you'd inked them transparently.. but then you'd have a PSD, and you wouldn't be able to bring it back into open canvas. you'd get as far as the lines though.

hmmmmm....using OpenCanvas seems like a good idea. I stoped doing outlines though
oh~ if you don't like having to line up the lineart in PS when you copy+paste it, you should just duplicate the layer, it'll appear in the exact same spot, not tedious re-aligning
