Good start of the tutorial. Are you using only this technic or do you use the vectors in Photoshop as well ???

Thankyou so much for providing a link to OpenCanvas. For whatever reason, I have been having the hardest time finding a legitimate site that provides it. Thankyou, too, for taking the time to enlighten us with a tutorial on your work!

erm, i'd like to point out you can save yourself a hell of a lot more time on step 5
- instead of copying and pasting, you could just duplicate the line layers, and then just merge it, this way you dont have to copy paste and then align it blablabla. it might not be that much faster, but at least its less inane.
anyway nice tut ^^

The-Deleted In reply to The-Deleted [2006-06-06 03:57:01 +0000 UTC]
er, now that i get step 6, you instead of merging it down just as soon as you duplicate it, you could duplicate the layers, make all the edits you want, and then merge it. still faster and less inane if you ask me.. sorreh ^^"

shirotsuki In reply to The-Deleted [2006-06-06 13:37:14 +0000 UTC]
i dont merge it down as soon as i get to step six ^ ^. but i know what you mean by the duplicate layer option now, i didn't know how to use that untill i put up this tutorial. though really, it only takes a second to get everything to line up anyway.. im just happy to have an automatic button for it now >:3

hehe, one more question. why do you redo the lines in opencanvas instead of doing it straight in photoshop?
π: 0 β©: 1
shirotsuki In reply to The-Deleted [2006-06-12 21:36:57 +0000 UTC]
its a matter of preference ^ ^. i like how open canvas handles details better!

hurray for the tutorial!!!! awesomeness! i figured you used a blur on your lineart, so that's how you got it so soft. can't wait to see the next step! YAYYY!

*whoohoo!*
Thanks so much for starting the tutorial, I'm thrilled to see how you work! Just a quick question about your linework in OpenCanvas. You said you worked the lines with the pencil tool in black, right? So, do you just lower the opacity of the black "ink" and work at less than 100% opacity?
Thanks again for the tutorial, I'm excited to see the color start!
π: 0 β©: 1
shirotsuki In reply to silvertales [2006-06-06 13:33:59 +0000 UTC]
nope, the pencil tool stays at a default radius of about 0.8-0.9 pixels, and i have both of the pen sensitivity options switched on. i also use an intous 2 tablet! its nothing fancy, just straight penciling.
and you're welcome ^ ^.

Instead of copying and pasting the lineart on different layers and then trying to line it up, wouldnt it be MUCH easier to just duplicate the layer with the lineart, thus automaticaly lining everything up and making it darker?

I think, if you hold shift and paste, it'll paste the picture in the same place. I'm not entirely certain though.
Nice tutorial, though I would never have the patience for inking a picture at that size. XD

so if we don't have a tablet, we can just use the pen tool and have its stroke path set to pencil? do you always have the pencil size at 1px? this tut is sooo cool, I feel the urge to ink something RIGHT NOW
π: 0 β©: 1
shirotsuki In reply to Xaiyu [2006-06-06 13:29:42 +0000 UTC]
if you're savvy with the pen tool, then i bet you could! i stink with it, so if i dont have a tablet, im gone ^ ^;. the only thing you'd be missing is the slight line variations, i guess. and thanks!
