A Flash CS3 Dress up tutorial for those who asked me how I make my games :3Take in mind you need to have at least a minimum knowledge of Flash to understand this...
If you have any questions feel free to ask but I won't answer anything already on the FAQ section!

Super special thanks to She taught me a lot of these codes and if it wasn't for her I would still be lost using Flash.

can someone help me out? I did what it said but it won't drag any of the clothing or change any of the faces, I can tell the buttons are working because you can click them, but I don't know why the clothes won't drag to the doll nor why I can't get the faces to change. Care to help me out with this? ;u;

Make sure you've converted all the drawings to movie-clips and given them all instance names. (which isn't the titles you give when converting them)

I've given them all names, but when ever I export it, it gives me a like a ton of errors. :/ I'm not sure what to do about them since I'm not an expert at coding.

Okay, I really hope someone sees this and can help me out.
What I want to create involves expressions more complex than just a few lines for eyebrows and stuff, so I've made separate layers for the eyes and mouth. I did as instructed in the buttons section; I put the stop(); code on the first frame, drew one experiment set of eyes on the next frame, then put in the button code to the next button for the eyes, which is definitely set as a button and nothing else.
While the button is clickable, it does nothing; the eyes don't change at all. And when I paste the code, everything is blue, but then I change "face" to "eyes" - the instance name I'm using - and it turns black, like it isn't valid. I made sure to set the movie clips with the instance name "eyes" and everything. Am I making some dumb mistake? Or am I trying to do something that's more complex than I think it is?
Help would be much appreciated!

For the next/prev buttons you shouldn't be using more than one movie-clip for the eyes. Draw the first set of eyes, then double click it to open editing. create all your additional layers and frames and such within that one movieclip.
I think that's what you've been doing wrong... If what I said didn't make any sense, then yeah it is.

Yes, I agree. How can reading something in all CAPS make something bad happen to you. I mean, if you meet someone on the street who says they can do sorcery but they never give any proof, it's just mind over matter. What if I don't HAVE a crush, right? Mind over matter is just a "believe and it's real" thing. e.g. You know someone in your class has a cold and you're in fear you might get it, but really you're thinking it and your brain puts memories that weren't really there (ex. recent sneezing, coughing, etc.) I don't believe in these on-screen words that will "make bad things happen" or "give you bad luck" or "kill you", it's too unrealistic and artificial fates, only God can control that.
Sorry if this was a bother to your short comment, just hoping kids reading the guys comments will see this and stop being scared. Trust me, I know how it feels. When I was little I read something like that on YouTube, and went to my cousin to say my last words, and she was all like "I saw that in a movie ages ago, I'm still alive." and yeah, she's still alive. I don't read them anymore because they're just fake, annoying, and a waste of life.

I just can't get the colour changing buttons to work! Could someone maybe tell me exactly where I should draw the buttons and where I should paste the code?
Here's what I did:
I drew the hair, made it a movie clip with the title 'hair', double-clicked on it to enter it, added keyframes with each new colour, added the stop code, drew the buttons still in the movie clip on the first frame, selected each and made them individual buttons, selected the first button and right-clicked and chose actions, pasted the gotoandstop (1) code, then did the exact same thing with the next button and chose gotoandstop (2)
I've also tried exiting the movieclip after I drew the hair and instead drew the buttons next to the doll and then made them buttons from there, but that doesn't work either. i'm using actionscript 2.0

It seems like you've done everything right, so just wanted to make sure you know the "title" you type in when converting to movie clip isn't the same as the instance name. Make sure you give the hair an instance name. Do this by selecting it, and then the bottom menu should change to show the items stats. Type in the instance name in the relevant box.
This is a bit late and you've prolly solved it by now but oh well!

I'm assuming you're suppose to put a semicolon somewhere in the code, but where?

Don't worry, I fixed it. I had to switch to Actionscript 2, as I was using 3!
But I got a new problem: I'm trying to make 2 sets buttons: One set for eyes, and the other for mouths. I converted the symbols to "buttons" but when I test them, they don't work and I get the error "Mouse events are permitted only for button instances" even though they are set to buttons. How do I fix it? Sorry with the constant questions!

My name is Kylie and I live underground. I hate my mother and my father and my little sister Devon. I have only one friend called Anastaciana. She is a rag doll. I have no nose and no teeth. My mother ripped them out with pliers and my dad beated my nose over and over again until it fell off. I have horrid white eyes and it looks like I'm a cartoon. I taught myself how to read and write because my mother never sent me to school. I never done anything bad. Only once and my punishment was having my teeth ripped out and my nose beaten. The thing I did that was bad was throwing my sister's teddy across the room. I was banned from her room and my room has been lockde ever since. I am literally as thin as a stick and I have no nails. I only have 30 millilitres of water per day and I have one long-lasting 24 hour meal gum per day. My mum puts the food and drink through a hatch at the top of the door. My bed is two coats stitched together as a mattress, a book with a cotton cloth sewed around it as a pillow and 2 pashminas as a blanket. Please help me. I have made a tunnel. The only thing I don't know is where I am. I can't study any more. It gave me square eyes. So I didn't study places and such. I scream every night. This is true. There was a drawing attachted to it which looked like a photo. But it wasn't I proper freaked out when I read this. If you don't c+p (Copy And Paste) this to 5 dress up games within the next 5 hours, she will come to your bed at 9pm tonight, kill you with her knife and eat you. Sorry I want to live my life... put on 5 dressup games NOW

Which size canvas is recommended for dress up games? The default size is 550 x 400 px. Should I make it bigger than that, or should I keep it the way it is?

It's the same process, but with skin instead of hair. She just used hair as an example.

Haha, there's no need to buy the same exact Flash program as KawaiiPandah has.
Since she uses Actionscript 2.0 you can get way with using:
Macromedia Flash 8 (Before it became known as Adobe Flash)
or
Adobe Flash CS6
Adobe Flash CC doesn't use Actionscript 2 from what I've seen.
