I also told AdamKop that I’m beginning to like A-wings, what with their impressive performanceΒ despite (or perhaps thanks to?) their small size. And I don’t think I’ve seen many Star Wars ships with such a flat shape for the fuselage, very appealing to me!πŸ‘Œ

Speaking of Azure, what’s your favorite squadron color? For me, it’s a tossup between blue, red and gold, I think.

I tend to gravitate towards Blue. Red and Gold, however, are Star Wars staples

Slightly more advanced, like a "Plus" model before the Mark II and III go into production.

Is this a more advanced A-Wing or another designation altogether?

What variant of A-Wing is that? The guns don’t look like they rotate as the should.Β

For two main reasons. The first is that in the Expanded Universe, only the Mark II's had the 360-degree swiveled cannons, which is the what the story series I'm writing takes place in. Second, I didn't request it, as I don't see what real advantage that feature has without a dedicated gunner or an astromech droid. Seems like too much of a distraction for the pilot to focus on both arcs of fire.Β

As I understand it, under the new canon the A-Wings we see in RotJ had this feature. The idea was that the guns could be rotated either together or independently to fire behind the fighter to cover itself during a dogfight.Β

The design as you have it is still pretty slick.Β

That's true. This one, however, is intended for the Legends/EU setting.Β

In my headcanon (pun intended) the guns are aimed by a helmet system, similar to the AH-64 gun turret.Β  The guns pivot in the direction that the pilot is looking and aimed by a gunsight on the helmet visor, so the distraction is minimal.

Ah, I could see that (and actually, that helps me anticipate what I'm going to do for the Mark II's when they make their appearance, since they will have the rotating turrets). Appreciate the feedback!Β

I used to play an A-wing pilot in the WEG RPG back in the day, and I put WAY TOO MUCH thought into those kinds of details.

Oooh, I like the subtle variation! By the way, do you know how I can get in contact with Adam? Because Lucasfilm gave one of his ship designs to one of their artists for a comic and I wasn't sure if this was done with or without his approval.

Best way is to note him directly. Which design was it, BTW?Β

And here's the Star Herald from Adventures in Wild Space:
Β

As you can see, they're play for play nearly identical. I was able to contact the comic's artist on Twitter and he told me that they gave him Adam's art as a reference. And knowing big companies, I doubt they did it with his permission.

And what do you mean by "note directly"?

That's some straight up BS! Sadly, I don't think there's much he can do, because it is a fan-work and he is not the IP holder. Still, not a bad idea to contact him about it. What I mean by "note him" is to send him a note here on dA. That's how I stay in contact with him.
