Background:
The X-Wing Ace Custom was envisioned as a follow-up to the T-65D-A1 model, whose reputation suffered after the discovery of Imperial detonation devices were found aboard hundreds of production models, planted by Almanian saboteurs at the behest of their leader, Kueller, a former apprentice of Master Skywalker. In an attempt to recoup the losses from the recalled line, Incom partnered up with FreiTek, whose E-Wing starfighter had grown in popularity with the New Republic forces since the Battle of Mon Calamari eleven years prior, and redeveloped the D-model X-Wing nearly from the ground up.
The D-A1 development team, still adamant that the replacement of the astromech socket would yield additional space for more advanced systems, left that particular change intact and instead further upgraded the already sophisticated sensor suite and navigational computer. This sensor package would be the most powerful ever installed on an X-Wing fighter until the fielding of the T-65XJ3, and significantly-improved the fire control system increased the D1-A3’s potential lethality. The increased spread and power of its new Incom 4L4 fusial thrust engines enabled greater acceleration and maneuverability, and the sleeker fuselage and S-foils reduced the X-Wing Ace’s profile by a decent margin, adding to its survivability.
Sadly, orders for the T-65D1-A3 by the New Republic were limited to no more than a few hundred units, spread out between allied government planetary defense units or to squadron commanders as an elite model. The bad reputation of its predecessor, the D-A1, and the New Republic Defense Force’s preference for the less-expensive T-65A3 overshadowed what would’ve otherwise been considered a great replacement for earlier X-Wing models.

Between Alfred Wong's kit talent and Adam's rendering ability, there's no shortage of great ships to depict
