Background:
The X-Wing Ace Custom was envisioned as a follow-up to the T-65D-A1 model, whose reputation suffered after the discovery of Imperial detonation devices were found aboard hundreds of production models, planted by Almanian saboteurs at the behest of their leader, Kueller, a former apprentice of Master Skywalker. In an attempt to recoup the losses from the recalled line, Incom partnered up with FreiTek, whose E-Wing starfighter had grown in popularity with the New Republic forces since the Battle of Mon Calamari eleven years prior, and redeveloped the D-model X-Wing nearly from the ground up.
The D-A1 development team, still adamant that the replacement of the astromech socket would yield additional space for more advanced systems, left that particular change intact and instead further upgraded the already sophisticated sensor suite and navigational computer. This sensor package would be the most powerful ever installed on an X-Wing fighter until the fielding of the T-65XJ3, and significantly-improved the fire control system increased the D1-A3’s potential lethality. The increased spread and power of its new Incom 4L4 fusial thrust engines enabled greater acceleration and maneuverability, and the sleeker fuselage and S-foils reduced the X-Wing Ace’s profile by a decent margin, adding to its survivability.
Sadly, orders for the T-65D1-A3 by the New Republic were limited to no more than a few hundred units, spread out between allied government planetary defense units or to squadron commanders as an elite model. The bad reputation of its predecessor, the D-A1, and the New Republic Defense Force’s preference for the less-expensive T-65A3 overshadowed what would’ve otherwise been considered a great replacement for earlier X-Wing models.

It looks disturbing, logical and beautiful in the same time.
Beautiful because you master drawing Star Wars ship and know how to do a X-Wing for Ace Pilots with reduced S-Foils but in the same time, it so much different than what we have seen in 40 years of Star Wars X-Wing, including the official T-70 evolution of the T-65B/T-65C X-Wing (A New Hope / Rogue One versions) that the eyes is searching for the common feature of all the X-Wing who were there before, without finding them in the right place but in the same time, it fit well between the usual T-65 /T-70 X-Wing and the futuristic X-83 TwinTail.

This is quite a fun looking ship.
It has sleek lines and looks like a high performance craft from the Star Wars universe should.
It shows the lines of its origins very obviously while at the same time being distinctive and obviously new in its form.
Beyond the wonderful design work, the art itself is stellar. Showing the high quality that we the audience who are familiar with the artist know to expect and find so incredible in these ship renditions. The lighting is well executed and the detail of seeing into the cockpit is a wonderful touch that can be so easily overlooked in such pieces.
The choice of green engine flares too is a distinctive artistic choice and helps to separate this piece from the plethora of other ship art that can be found.

I will be grading this a 9.9 out of 10. Who? Here are my reasons.
Even tho I am not that much of a fan of the Star Wars franchise (the last Star wars movie I watched being 'A New Hope'), this is some good art. This seems to get to a point where the shading is absolutely perfect, the color reproduction is spot-on, and the best of all, the expressions. A user named Klingon8088 called it 'Lean, mean and green,' and I can say the same about it. Overall, a shining star in a sea of great work on deviantART. You earn a grade A++, great work! Keep it up!

Hmmm...not much of a fan of the exposed engine thrusters. Still, a good artwork.

I *love* the new sleek fuselage, but I'm not enamored by the engines (or their green glow) - they look too underpowered and vulnerable to me... I'd probably suggest both enlarging them somewhat, moving them either on or at least nearer to the wingtips, and then reversing the wings to present a sleeker version of the traditional X-Wing. It'd also give the pilot a partial view of his engine pods that way.
Where the wings meet the fuselage could also do with reinforcing - maybe some struts ala the E-Wing?

The design is,t so good, because the turbines are on the wings. If the ship looses a wing it looses a turbine...

Man I really wish they used a design like this for Episode 7.

I see. Putting the engines further out gives even more vectorial thrust turning control.
But without the astromech droid, hyperspace coordinates have to be put in manually. Even Jedi usually didn't do that, I think.
Would this be a model that shaves weight be relying on a carrier?

It has its own navigational computer, much like the Millennium Falcon.

I love the dart look, also that it looks as if (with a heavy lifter) you could replace a damaged engine in two minutes.

Another Alfred Wong classic. It's impressive how quickly Adam churns these out while still maintaining such high standards of quality.
I notice that this take on the ship is smaller and more angular than the original. Is it the FaSotS continuity's version of the model?

I think it's just Adam's creative liberty, and it worked very well for this particular design to tweak it a bit. But no, this was intended for Legends/EU.

Gotcha. I agree that Adam's tweaks work in the ship's favor. As much as I like the original model, it does lean on the "visually noisy" side of things (to be fair, that's often the case with kitbashes).

Depends on Lucasfilm. If they entertain the idea of a Rian Johnson-directed trilogy, I won't be watching those for sure.

For Episode IX, yes (because they fired Colin Trevorrow, who was originally slated as director). But they declared a Rian Johnson trilogy right before The Last Jedi was released, and after recent shenanigans on his part, I can't stand the man.

I don't know. They just green-lit another season of Clone Wars, so that tells me that sonething has changed for the better. Think KK's on her way out the door...
