Heh. It looks like the fusion of a VF-1 and an Arwing, yet stillΒ has that Star WarsΒ aesthetic. Adam does great work.Β

This is this "Trash-X-Wing" Model what is not even really an X-Wing and totally weak compared to it, right?
I have seen this Starfighter in a Game many Years before and i must say it is laughable
Cool Artwork, though this looks awesome

It is hardly a "trash X-Wing." It is an atmospheric fighter so of course it does not have the same capabilities.

The Z-95 Headhunter is an atmospheric fighter so of course it doesn't match up to the X-Wing, although it is what the X-Wing is based upon.

It is the predecessor to the X-Wing, introduced in the Old Republic and served before and during the Clone Wars. I think the Z-95 was in the X-Wing and TIE Fighter PC games, and yeah, they are no match against Rebel or Imperial craft.Β

There is a Game, i think is called " Star Wars Alliance " and it plays
entirely in Space, if my Memory is correct
The Player can fly this Predecessor of the X-Wing in it - and it is
ridiculously weak compared to the X-Wing. It is hardly any stronger
than a Tie-Fighter - so the Player must be careful not to get hit

I remember that ship, I think it was called "Jades Fire" IIRC.Β She was my favorite character in the old continuity, when they killed her off I left also.Β Β Considering what's become of the movies under Misney, perhaps killing her off was a favor.Β Β

Jade's Fire was her personal yacht, which was followed by the Jade Shadow during the NJO novels. She truly was a great character.

It doesn't matter if Mara Jade is canon or not. She is not going anywhere. Mara Jade flew a highly modified Z-95 Headhunter, but just like any version of this ship, it is straight out of the Expanded Universe, as is Coruscant, the first EU reference in a Star Wars movie (Episode I.) The EU remains the primary source of the best ideas being used in Star Wars "canon" now.

Very little that is Star Wars on my page would be considered canon now. Much of it is intended to be set in the Expanded Universe/Legends setting.

She is not dead. This very site is keeping her alive and her "death" was tragically ill written. The death of that entire NJO storyline soon followed.

I finished the remainder of Legacy of the Force (and read the Legacy comics), but I couldn't get into Fate of the Jedi. The feel of it was off, and not very well written.

I think that I would have preferred it if the Headhunters in the EU didn't look so much like X-Wings with their S-foils welded closed. This is a much more original-looking design; was it inspired by the Headhunters in the latter part of The Clone Wars animated show?

I like just about any Headhunter variant (except those weird delta-winged ones in the comic adaptation of Han Solo at Star's End), but I agree that the straight-winged ones look too much like X-Wings.Β Like, I get that Incom was inspired by the Headhunter when designing the X-Wing, but the resemblance is a bit too on the nose for me.Β That said, the straight wing Headhunter redesigns Adam Kopala made for Shoguneagle earlier did a great job making them look and feel more distinctive.

Han Solo at Star's End (the first Brian Daley novel) describes them as bubble-canopied aerodynamic spacecraft, at least for the Mark I that was featured in that book. As the design evolved, it began to resemble what would become the X-Wing. The Headhunters in Clone Wars seem to be a blend of the two; a bubble canopy with swept wings and an X-Wing fuselage.

WOW!!! That is a very striking colour scheme - like the motif's around the nose
Was the visibility of the pilot important?

Shoguneagle In reply to Colourbrand [2018-07-05 04:24:22 +0000 UTC]
Yes. The Mark I was designed to be more of an atmospheric craft, and as such, incorporated the bubble canopy for visibility. As the design progressed, it took on features that transformed it more into a space fighter, which culminated with the Z-95AF4, which closely resembled the X-Wing in design and function, except for the astromech socket, hyperdrive, and the S-foils.Β

So that's what those look like. I always wondered. I always pictured a weird mix of an X-wing and an F-14, which I guess isn't super far off.

To be fair, there's never been to my knowledge a 100% book-accurate depiction of a Mark I Headhunter.Β The few official illustrations from comics turned it into a stubby delta-winged ship that bears next to no resemblance to other Z-95 models.Β This one is fairly close, but it's missing a forked tail (Brian Dailey envisioned the ship as a Star Wars version of the P-38 Lightning).Β The triple blasters were originally mounted on the wingtips, though this configuration makes more sense to me.Β This one is also spaceworthy as opposed to the original's strictly atmospheric capabilities.
But hey, I'm not about to complain about artistic liberties when it results in such an awesome looking ship.Β Besides, the Z-95 is an old design with numerous changes and iterations made to it throughout its career.Β I'm sure there's a place in the Headhunter pantheon for a beauty like this.
