Description
So recently a handful of people have been asking me about my shading process, and it got it in my head to create this! A boy of mine ( GV Zero to Hero ) has really been needing a shading overhaul lately, so I decided now was a good time to give him one!If you follow this, let me know how it goes, I'm curious to see how works turn out if you've tried this method!
Edit: One of the most important things I've learned with this is to be patient. Speed will come with time. It took me fifteen minutes to do this shading job altogether, I could probably do a lot better on it, but I've done it so many times that it comes a little faster to me than it used to. So, speed comes with practice. There's no hurry here.

Thank you! Can I ask how you do it when the horse has white patterns on the body, especially things like blanket apps? I don't like using a greyscale because I can't get much color into the shading but I have noooo idea on how to manage any sort of colorful horse!

Hey there!
I normally hide all white markings when I do the steps in the tutorial, and then I'll turn the white markings back on. GV Vivacious Vagabond IHS I'll use this guy to illustrate my points!
If I can't see the highlighting when I turn the white markings layer back on, then I lock the opacity of the screen layer and go back over the highlighting JUST over the white areas with a much lighter color than I just used on the horse. You of course shouldn't have this problem with the shading layer with multiply. Sometimes, like on the boy above, it becomes necessary for me to add more shading in pockets that have neither highlights nor shading on white areas, just because the white areas are too light to really show any highlighting.
Does that make sense?
