Description
Blue Sports CarThis is 'technically' unfinished - as it's high poly, and uses a lot of material settings...
There is an engine under it's hood - (very incomplete as well)...
I can't keep the file open very long as it's maxing my 3GB of DDR2 ram... renderings seems to want to shut my Blender down...
Anyway, someday when I have a better computer, I'll look into completing this... but that may be a while...

Nice!
Is the car body all from one cube or did you make all different parts and placed them together?

Car body was all one cube - subdivided/extruded/etc... once I had the shape I 'cut out' the hood/doors/lights...
The body (and all of it's parts) are also 'solidified' with a solidifier setting of .05
Once that was applied - I the loop, cut, and slide (x2) all of the sides (surface above/ side all the way around/ surface below) in order that the seams would line up smoother.

the paint material is excellent and the wheel modelling is great, not too sure on the body so far, but as its not complete yet I cannot judge it just yet

The body is done - the rims and tires (with the brakes/calipers/etc) are done... it's the engine and interior that wasn't finished...

Good work so far. If you want I can try to render it on my new computer -- How big is the .blend?
I think, another thing you can do is render the image in parts, rather than as one whole image.

The file (according to my file browser) is only 71.54MB - however when open...

And according to my system monitor - both CPU's ramp up to 100% and memory also ramps up to to 100% usage (which is 3GB physical ram + 2GB swap).

Wow! The vertices and face doesn't look that big from the render you uploaded.
My machine has an Intel Dual core and 6 GB of RAM, so it might be able to handle it. The key word is might, though. 3 million vertices and faces is pretty extreme.
I think there is a Blender script that breaks large renders down into more manageable pieces.

It's the subsurface subdivide... it makes things so smooth, while adding up the verts/faces very quickly.
There is a network rendering tool - I just don't have things set up on the other computers in order to use it.

Did you think about using NURBS?

I never liked the way they worked...

Yeah - putty render - but the details don't show, nor does the reflections, or the depth of color, or much of anything...

I just need to use less verts and faces in my models... (but it makes it SOOOO SMOOOOTH)
