At her core, Gale is an introvert. Social interaction makes her uncomfortable, and because she isn't sure how to conduct herself properly (how do people??), she often gives the impression of being a terse and ill-tempered individual with little grasp of warmth, civility, or compassion -- and no mind-to-mouth filter. A kithood that emphasized the need for stealth above all else has ensured that she remains quiet unless she has something of significance to say, and given the opportunity to choose between friendship and loneliness, she would opt for loneliness every time. Loneliness is familiar to her, a routine comfort. Friendship is new, and strange, and frightening.

When wheedled into a discussion or a bit of harmless chitchat, she tends to fall back on vague monosyllabic responses and cryptic grunting. Her vocabulary is not exactly small or infantile, but it is quite broken. Her life before Haven was not one that encouraged conversation, and her internal word bank has suffered because of that. She often finds herself at a total loss for the right term when she needs it.

Callous, irritable, moody, withdrawn... it has been argued that Gale has the all the charm and good humor of a cantankerous old man, but regardless of whether or not this is true, her barbed tongue and stony face in combination make her a rather daunting cat to approach (let alone get to know). Tack on her notoriously short temper, and it becomes easy to see why she isn't popular with others her age. Or with anyone, really. Her icy hostility makes her difficult to befriend.

Gale is no stranger to adult decisions, and to the adult consequences that may follow in their wake. She's been an adult the majority of her short nine moons; the moment she was old enough to walk, and talk, and think, she was expected to me more -- to be intelligent, to be wise, to be cynical, to understand the way the world worked, the way it truly worked, and to respect it. Her father showed her darkness when she was young, and it still lingers in her mind.

It should come as no surprise that her sense of humor is practically nonexistent. She's somber to the point of absurdity, and her genuine confusion regarding jokes, pranks, and fun in general makes it easy for others to enjoy a laugh at her expense.

If Gale does not wish to move, she will not be moved. Whining, pleading, and threatening only serve to ignite her temper. On a more positive note, she is absolutely dogged in everything that she does. If she sets her mind to something, she will accomplish it, and regardless of how many times she's beaten down, literally or figuratively, she will climb back to her feet ready for more. Some might even go so far as to say she's a glutton for punishment. Giving up is not a concept that she understands.

Loyalty and dedication are paramount to Galepaw. She isn't one to make frugal promises, and she isn't free with her trust or her fealty either, but her word - when given - becomes her creed; her morals, opinions, and personal code no longer take precedence. This intense commitment to candor and self-reliance means that she sees dependency as a weakness, so when she bites off more than she can chew she has an awful tendency to set her jaw and dig in her heels rather than ask for help, even when help is just what the situation calls for.

Gale does not tell lies, not to spare the feelings of those around her. She can always be counted on to speak with honesty and conviction -- if a cat has been asinine, selfish, cowardly, or pompous, she will tell them precisely that. Alternatively, she gives credit where credit is due, and is not stingy with praise (though her compliments are rather dry).

Every action has a reaction, every cause has an effect, and Galepaw is aware of this on a deeply visceral level despite her youth. Everything that she does, everything that she says, it is deliberate; her words and her actions are never thoughtless. This makes her a wonderful tactician and an incredible ally, but a terrible conversationalist and, sometimes, a poor friend.

Having been born into a world where the cats who wished to kill her and steal what she had were rivaled only by the hoards of ashen monsters that roamed the land, Galepaw finds it understandably difficult to give others her full confidence -- or even a fraction of it. Her parents taught her that in order to survive, she had to be cautious, and in the months following their deaths (and the deaths of her brothers) she discovered just how narcissistic, greedy, and deceptive cats can be, and how easy it is to be fooled by them when you're alone. Words and actions, however convincing, mean little to her; she is keenly aware of the fact that lies can be told through behavior as thoroughly as they can be told through mouths. Because of this, she meets all kind gestures with suspicion and wariness. In her experience, everyone has a motive, an underlying truth, and that truth is often nestled beneath layers of deceit, intentional or otherwise.
