I think this piece was inspired by my latest poll question.H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorite writers and his works have been a big influence on me. I'm surprised it has taken me this long to get around to doing a piece in his honor, but now I finally have. This piece features a bunch of monsters influenced by his writings, in particualr...
Cthulhu, the Deep ones, Chthonians, Gugs, Moon-Beasts, Zoth-Ommog, the Great old ones and the Necronomicon!

Maybe the Cthulhu game isn't for you then... the character you play in it has panic attacks, vertigo, visions, and frequent hollucinations that make the screen do some pretty dizarre things!

This is a beautiful rendering of a lot of the major characters of Lovecraft's works.
Well if I remember reeading the little bit about Mr. Lovecraft, he did seem to have a "questionable" mental state. Most of his work seemed to be along similar literary lines as Alfred Hitchcock of where most of the horror and monsters are relatively up to the reader's imaginiation. But alos in the same time being rather detailed in the spicific context of just about everyhtign else.

From what little I read it it wasn't so much of issue just that a lot of what he was writing wasnt really mainstream. Because Mary Shelly had written Frenkenstein only about 30 years erlier, ok it probably was a thread he expanded on.
But I'd wadger if you send Gerge A. Romero (the Dead series for the handful of people who are unaware) back to HP Lovecraft's time they probably would have collaborated on a work or two.

I know many have already commented on how foudroyant this piece is and how Lovecraft would have admired such a tribute, but I feel that neglecting to impart my opinion would be an insult.
Mr. Lovecraft was the very first of my favourite authors. I was absloutely absorbed into his macabre yet captivating worlds, whether they be of this plane or another. To witness Lovecraft so beautifully placed within his own natural element: the dark realm of his phantasies and concepts.

Well it certainly does provoke a feeling of macabre that fits quite well with Lovecraft's style. I must admit that I am unfamiliar with some of the creatures you mentioned such as the Gugs, though the reason most likely might be my negligence of Lovecraft's writings for quite some time.

Great, great picture, but I think it would be better to add to the eyes an orb reflection and maybe make them of another color... yellow

the band Nox Arcana had made a CD dedicated to the Cthuhlu Mythos XD I have that CD's music on my comp it's awesome..it made me want to draw some stuff of the Lovecraft monsters

Dude, im really impressed your work is AWESOME, Trully a Masterpiece, i really like the way it came, Cthulhu looks impresive but the cherry on top was Lovecraft holding the Necronomicon.
Im a huge Lovecraft fan too, i made long time ago a Pixel Cthulhu, im gonna search that image on my CDs and i think im gonna post it.
