Description
I think this piece was inspired by my latest poll question.H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorite writers and his works have been a big influence on me. I'm surprised it has taken me this long to get around to doing a piece in his honor, but now I finally have. This piece features a bunch of monsters influenced by his writings, in particualr...
Cthulhu, the Deep ones, Chthonians, Gugs, Moon-Beasts, Zoth-Ommog, the Great old ones and the Necronomicon!

YEa, thats the part I don't like about it. I want to see more monsters and violence with cool stories and less of the sex. It's ok to have it every now and then, even one story a n issue, ut sometimes the thing is wall to wall and it gets boring.

I totally agree.... I only ever bought one issue, and that was 'cos I'd flicked through and saw some cool monsters and kick ass fighting. But then I got into University and was all like "check this out! The artwork rocks!" and everyone was just looking in disgust saying "so was this cheaper than regular porn?"....... I don't get Japanese Hentai either; I just think it's a bit sick really.

Yea, I don't really get the hentai stuff either. Every now and then Heavy Metal has something really, really cool in it. I'll pick up some issues of 2000ad. I remember getting some 2000ad comics here but they were in the 6x10 comic format on regular newprint paper. They might of even been put out by DC or something, but I remember reading Stotinum Dog and Cholly and Flytrap ( I think that's right?)

I'll have to check that Cholly and Flytrap thing.... I've never heard of them, but then again, 2000ad has been going since the 70's, so there's a whole bunch I haven't read! Strontium Dog rules too. Judge Dredd is obviously the best character, but Bec & Kawl are cool too.... totally different; she's a goth art student , he's a geeky film student (who bares a freaky resemblence to me!), and they keep getting mixed up in the occult on a regular basis. The film references and humour are thick and fast, and the artwork has a really strong and bold style.

This is incredible. I knew you were cookin' up somethin good 'cause you hadn't put anything up in a week or so. This is the shit, and it makes me really want to read the stories. Your colors and creatures are always a blast and your finished work is always a treat.

Thanks so much! Glad you like how this one came out, its fun to draw monsters. A bunch of people told me they had Cthulhu on their mind, maybe they are speaking to us and plan on taking the earth back.

FANTASTIC PIECE! I love Lovecraft so much.
I actually started reading him when I was really young, this is just a great piece. I love how they are all situated around him, how he is the master, the one in control.

Many years ago, I had a discussion with a friend of a friend of a friend.
(I will not name the final name, but my friend is Richie Stotts of the Plasmatics and King Flux,
his friend is a guy named Clark, who was the Plasmatics publicist. It is Clark's friend who shall remain nameless)
Clark's friend told me that the only viable way to obtain a copy of the Necronomicon is to steal one.
It cannot be bought, it cannnot be traded for, it cannot be borrowed.
The language it is written in is the tongue of the angels, and cannot be spoken aloud by humans without dire consequences.
I just re-read all my Lovecraft stuff a few years ago, but what I really need to do now is track down everything August Derleth has to say and re-read that!

I think he did. It's been over twenty five years since I've read any Derleth.
I think he did some biography stuff on Lovecraft as well.

Cool! I haven't really read too much about Lovecraft himself but now I'm pretty interested in it. I might have to find some of Derleth's books. I guess I know what to ask for Christmas now.

sideshowmonkey In reply to PHARAOHSCURSE [2005-12-12 06:09:19 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Pharaoh, glad you like it.
I love to do commisions, it is fun to take an idea you wouldn't normally do and then see what you can do with it. BUt I've been pretty swamped with work lately but it never hurts to ask, I can always try and fit something in.
The only drawback to my work is that the majority of it is in a digital format, the drawing itself is on plain copy paper ( I used to use bristol board like my pal Bryan but gave it up for what I like most, crappy xerox paper) and usually is in pencil and then scanned and inked and colored in the computer. So when I do commisions I have to let people know up front that it will mainly be a high-res digital file and the original drawing on plain paper.
Just send me a note or email if you ever want to pursue it further.
Thanks again!
