I think this piece was inspired by my latest poll question.H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorite writers and his works have been a big influence on me. I'm surprised it has taken me this long to get around to doing a piece in his honor, but now I finally have. This piece features a bunch of monsters influenced by his writings, in particualr...
Cthulhu, the Deep ones, Chthonians, Gugs, Moon-Beasts, Zoth-Ommog, the Great old ones and the Necronomicon!

Wow I love it! Lovecraft's work is one of my greatest inspirations and I think this piece does wonderful justice to his stories and characters. Definitely a favorite!

Did you know they're doing a game base on some of his stuff? I saw some screenshots with Dagon and Cthulhu and nearly pissed myself. Can't remember where I saw it though...

Very very cool, I have to say this piece is amazing. There is so much to it.
You coloured it with slightly different lighting to usual? It looks really dark, and that fog is just <3

Thanks! Glad you noticed the lighting, it was little different and the fog was more painterly than I usually do. The biggest difference to the lighting is that there are no shadows or lights on HPL himself.

A cold and eerie saturday morning, you sit down with your cup of coffee. As the steam rises in front of you a sound rips through the strange quietness.

Knock
You get up instinctively. Before you know it, your hand reaches for the door knob.
A feeling of uneasiness rolls through your body as you fight with yourself.
Should you open it?
Or should you leave this surreal scene and go back to bed?
Your hand makes the decision for you. As the door swings open, you quickly realize that it made the wrong one.
His voice rings out like a vulture in the night sky. . .

(ya know... if this wasn't for H.P. Lovecraft...this would've been the greatest anti jehovah's witness piece EVER!!)

Lovecraft is god. I had a similar idea, if I do it and upload, don't think I'm trying to steal! I love his work and have always wanted to do something similar. Promise it will be completely different...Cthulhu will be on the right. Lol, just messing around. Very nice though!!!

This seems to be the drawing you were destined to do. I really like your designs of a lot of all the monsters. Especially that creature directly to his left. Great shading too, you made them all look really wrinkly and fleshy.

excellent tribute to a one-of-a-kind writer! i don't know if it really captures the dark mood of his work, though. i guess it's the style... while an excellent drawing, it just seems too um... light?

Wow, that's a really impressive piece! Have you read Necronaughts? It was a comic that featured in British comic 2000ad (the home of Judge Dredd), and it's out now as a graphic novel (trade paperback)..... Lovecraft was a character in it, teaming up with Houdini and people like that to fight unimaginable evil! Really different and great reading!

Yeah, it's worth a look. It has to be said, 2000ad is one of my favourites. They have a really good mix of mainstream style narrative, and really abstract narrative. They have humour, violence, monsters, gore, serious stories, completely gore free stories, bizarre main characters, stereotypical main characters..... I'd say there's something for everyone in there (at least, something for every comic fan!)

Yea, I had an issue a long, long time ago but I dont readily find it around here in California. It kind of sounds like "Heavy Metal" but with more ongoing series arcs and stuff.

Yeah, there's a lot of similarities to Heavy Metal. I got an issue of Heavy Metal once, and I must say, I was kinda surprised at how much sex was in it!
