How did you blend the fur so detailed like that? When I try to blend it, it just smears together. :/
Thanks for this awesome tutorial, by the way!

Taking a look at some photos of wolf eyes...
cdn2.arkive.org/media/82/8287E…
m9.i.pbase.com/g6/31/481331/2/…
See the direction of fur growth. Keep that in mind as you are blending/smudging and only smudge lengthwise from the base of fur to the tip in that makes sense. Blend in direction of fur growth.
If you're using Photoshop, one brush I like to use (one of their brushes that comes with it) is 'Round Blunt Medium Stiff' and I think it comes in the dry media pack or natural brush packs? It's in there somewhere. I use that brush as the 'Smudge' tool, it looks like this:
cdn.tutsplus.com/psd/uploads/2…
Because it's kind of like hair, it smudges it to look sort of fur like, leaving the edges jagged instead of soft.
Hopefully that helps! ^^

To say I'm a beginner is an understatement lol but your tutorial is simple enough to follow for me. The question I have though (if you have time to answer!) is my character has very white-blue eyes (like a husky) so how would I layer that since according to yours, the colors get lighter by layer. Would mine go slightly darker in contrast?

I'm very glad it's helpful! Even though your character has very pale eyes, I would start with a darker blue and add lighter colours and lighter details over top.
Here's an example, even though this husky eye is very pale, there's darker blues around the pupil and edges of the iris. So your base colour would be darker:

Is the eyes on wolves sort of sunk into the face like the humans are?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Sidonie In reply to BrittaSage [2013-09-30 03:23:20 +0000 UTC]
Slightly, but not by much. The eyebrow is actually raised, the cheeks raised a bit too so they look slightly sunken. However it's only slightly, so there usually isn't much shadow or anything

Oh okay, would you mind making a tutorial of the different angles of the wolf face?
I always have trouble with that.
