Description
Hope you can read the text :S - anyway I will post it in here tooFirst I create a colour sketch for the whole piece, which at the same time serves as a compositional sketch too. I don’t use separate sheets for these – the sketch is going to be transformed into the actual painting
This is going to be the first layer of pastels. (For me it is much easier to paint on this first layer, than on the blank sheet – somehow pastels are more solid on the paper)
On the first layer goes an other set of colours – at that time I start to paint more exact shapes. Also at this stage I put on some “unreal” colours that might not be on the original picture/ landscape (e.g.: purple and the harsh yellow in this case). After the first act of blending colours, I only use my hands to repeat this action (since when one layer of pastels is already there, the tissue starts to get off some of the colours)
Then comes a third layer of pastels. This the last-but-one stage, when I clarify the shapes and colours and try to imitate the original landscape/look.
As the last stage I “hide” some unreal colours – usually in the black areas- in order to make the scene more interesting. These colours tend to be very harsh, almost neon colours, but can only be seen when you go really close to the painting
