I bought a pack of Crayola oil pastels. Β I noticed they leave crumbs sometimes. Β Is that because of the brand, or do they all do that? Β If so, how do you recommend removing them? Β just scraping?

My advice is to make the crumbling work for you. It's a colour and texture. It lends itself well to many broken textures, like grass and greenery, roads and concrete, etc. You can always try to smooth it with your finger.

I just got my first set of Oil Pastels today, and I was rather scared of using them, but thanks to your tutorial I feel a lot more confident and it has really inspired me to try them out! So thank you so much!

TArthurSmith In reply to Inky-Pinkie [2013-05-28 10:59:52 +0000 UTC]

good! Remember to mix them up a lot, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. You can scrape away and color over very easily.

this is really amazing. it's interesting to see how it all comes together from something that doesn't look like anything at all. to this masterpiece.

Thank you very much. I hope all the explanation helps. Remember, every great piece of art ever made goes through beginning stages where it looks awful. Each artist has to believe that if they keep going, it'll turn out all right.
