Description
~dalekexterminate personally requested for me to help them with their face proportions and the like. I need to go back and revise this, make it a little more explanatory.- Use the circle as the cranium, it's the easiest and the most accurate way to set up the head and is used to set up pretty much everything else (hair, nose, eyes, chin, etc.).
- the half and half and half proportions I gave are the typical human face proportions but in anime/manga these rules don't have to apply so strictly. This is the general setup. And of course for character variety, you can adjust the proportions like a lower nose, bigger ears, etc.
-Generally, the ears start from the eyes and end at the bottom of the nose.
Hope this helps! Like I said before, if there's something here that you'd like for me to explain, just let me know and I will gladly go back and add it

This looks nice, it is all explained nicely! Only one question though, do you have something like this for female faces as well? I simply can't seem to draw them right to save my life - the female jaw line always gets me confused, and I can't draw female noses right as well, without making it to look overly masculine.

Thank you! Ah well, pretty much the same rules apply. Female jaws and noses are smaller and..smoother? lol
I don't have a separate female one. But if you check out my other corrections I have 2 that are female. That might help a little.

Ahh wow, this is awesome and incredibly helpful to see the direct comparisons like this of the same angles.. this should definitely help me with my drawing!
Okay, so I should use the circle as the cranium.. I've got to think of it as more of a sphere. And in the front-on view, the tip of the nose tends to touch the bottom of the sphere, yes?
Thank you very much for doing this! I'm really grateful. :') And feel free to submit this to the group! I bet this could come in handy to others, as well.

It will? :'D Oh I'm glad, for a while there I was thinking that maybe I wasn't going over exactly what you wanted.
Yes! The sphere is the cranium, that way you know how poofy or flat the hair is :>
Depends on the character design, but yes, typically the front view looking straight ahead has the nose touching the bottom for anime. Looking up or down that would change.
You're welcome! I'm touched that you would ask me for help at all :'> I'll try to send it to the club, but I'd have to ask since it wasn't submitted to the "correct me" folder.

Yeah, for sure! I never really feel like I know what I'm doing since I'm trying to teach myself, haha.. it's reassuring to get help like this pointing me in the right direction!
I'll have to concentrate to break the habit of using the circle randomly.. I keep drawing it without really thinking. >_<
Okay, thanks! I'm always looking for relationships between different points on the head.. it seems like there are just a few more relationships I really need to get into my mind before I can draw a structurally sound head correctly from different angles. But it's probably also that I need to further develop thinking in terms of 3D forms..
You are welcome! I was planning on submitting straight to the club, actually, but I saw another piece you corrected, which I thought you went about in quite a helpful way, as well as the fact your drawings have a certain quality about them that's missing from mine. So I thought I'd ask you. (x Thank you very much again for helping, I really appreciate you taking the time to do this!

You're doing really well for one who's teaching themselves! My pictures from before my anatomy classes were....shameful xD
if you want, there's a website that my teacher showed me that's really helpful! They have more body stuff, but they also have some head stuff too! Just go to the right and click on 'face'. There'll be a few angles (although not as much as I'd like) [link]
Awwww I'm so honored! It was my pleasure really, you're very welcome!

Thank you! Haha, I think I'm learning it all in a roundabout way, though... I'll "learn" something new but not realize how to practically apply it until months later... ah well, at least I'm making some progress. x') I can imagine classes would be helpful! Then you can always have someone correcting you as opposed to waiting until you notice the mistakes yourself and figure out a way to fix them. Although there is a certain fun challenge to it all.
Thanks! Ah, a lot of people love that website. I've been on it a few times- I should probably make it a habit since I'm in desperate need of improving my bodily anatomy drawing! You don't even want to know what those drawings look like right now... >_> Actually it's so bad I tend to give up before I try. Asakdjfh must stop doing that.

Well that's how it goes sometimes. It's only natural. I didn't grasp the concept of perspective until maybe a year after I had the class that I learned it from. The understanding of it all of a sudden just smacked me in the face it seems xD
Yeah it's nice to be able to call the teacher over for help. Although I rarely did it cuz I was embarrassed xD; But one should never be ashamed of asking for help!
It's a great website! I need to utilize it more. Using that site for anatomy practice would be really tough I imagine, without the prior knowledge of the basic human set up. That site basically takes off the skin, but knowing the framework underneath would help get the greatest benefit from it.
