Description After this, I'm kinda imagining a world without CSX, where Chessie continued into the 90s and then the three split again, but kept close ties.

B&O Heritage!

(When CSX Turns 200 in 2027, they should paint up some new locomotives into Classic schemes!)

It would be nice, but they won't. CSX cares about money, not history. It's sad to me how my favorite railroads merged with another set of good railroads and turned into this mess we call CSX.

Well, they are the owners of the B&O museum, so that must mean they have some sense of heritage! After all, if you were a transportation company, wouldn't you want to brag about the fact that you've stayed in business longer than any of your predecessors?

By Charter Date:
PRR(1846-1999, Transferred To Penn Central/Conrail)
NYC(1831-1968)
N&W(1838-1997)
B&O(1827-Present, Via. Transfer to CSX Transportation)

The only other railroads that come close to CSX's 183 year streak are UP (143), BNSF (GN, 120), KCS (KCP&G, 123), NS (SOU, 116), CN (1918) and CP (129). This is going by charter dates, mind you, not by when the companies took on their current names. Some will say that the D&H is the oldest, but the D&H was actually not a common carrier, so while it is the first railroad in the United States, it didn't haul freight other than its parent companies anthracite until later.

Plus, CSX has undergone a massive turnaround. It's rebuilding its locomotives and replacing its older ones, and its operating ratio has dropped down to 73%, a full 13% lower than it was just five years ago. So, who knows, maybe this new approach will yield a different attitude towards CSX's history. Plus, railroads seem to be becoming more conscious of their heritage these days.

I didn't know they owned the B&O museum, then what I said wasn't completely accurate. I don't think though that they'd go out of their way and do the special paint scheme thing. To me, when everyone says like "we've been in business for xxx years," the only one that can say that is UP, because the others are the results of mergers, and even UP shouldn't, because of all the mergers that have created it today. Yes, in a way they have, but it doesn't seem right that they take credit as if it was completely this company you have now.

About me calling CSX a mess, not in an operational sense, they're very efficient. I've just heard of some things that didn't exactly sound appealing to me about how they do things.

I'm not disagreeing with you or anything, I just am not a huge CSX fan (most likely because of the end of Chessie and the WM.) (I hope you're not a CSX employee or anything, then I apologize! I had a friend once explaining to a CSX employee to his face why CSX sucks and NS is better etc. Needless to say I had this 'who is this guy' attitude for the rest of that conversation XD)

And not just any B&O scheme, but the old passenger scheme to boot. How 'bout that.
