Wonderful work. I particularly like the creative license you take with the less historically reconstructive of your Byzantine/Mediaeval Roman pieces. Your approach here has been brewing in the back of my head for some time now.
This recent sculpt is obviously a result of being inspirred by you:
Cheers

Beautiful illustration
If i may ask, were the byzantine Numeroi as similar with the ancient macedonian phalanx as they seem in your [awesome] art? The only other depiction i've saw of them looked more like late roman troops

Thanks!
The pike formations were used in X century, we now this from tractates like Praecepta Militaria of Nicephorus II Phocas and Tactics of Leon. The byzantine art of X centure is greatly inspired by the classic antiquity, so miniatures whom I was inspired to take that armor style was'nt also fit in our clasic vision of the early medieval era. Β I take numeroi as a guard units who theoretically may use more decorative equipment.
My works are not an accurate reconstruction of course, but attempt to visualize how may looks the cool stuff we often see on the visual sources of that era.
I aslo have this more presice depiction how X c. phalanx was may be used:

And this funy picture litteraly show how this described in theΒ Β Praecepta Militaria:

Thanks for the clarification, it was very enlightening
It's also interesting how they had archers in the middle, reminded a little of the ancient persian Sparabara units
