These are an artistic fantasy of course. I draw them for my children's fun, with a simple felt pens. But in Manuel Panselinos and some other frescos we can see a lot of decorative armor elements. And also colored miniatures like in "Paris Psalter" for example, can really flip over our thoughts about byzantine arms and armor. So I'm just open up one corner for a little .
