You used a tablet without pressure sensitivity, and yet you made it with this animation ? great job !
Curiosity ; what tablet did you use ?Β

An old cheap Medion p82012 graphics design tablet. Yup no pressure sensitivity and even when I finally got the drivers it was buggy as hell.
Still, it's all I had when I started out and it got me through a lot

Well yeah, gotta give him props for a great tutorial. Though, all these views for relatively low effort it doesn't really feel I've earned them. At least I can divert the traffic to the original source.
Thanks anyway though~

I can't stop watching. *O*
I really like that 'flick' and 'flickering' feeling to the motion. Awesome work!

Interesting to see how alexredfish's lightning tutorial can turn out in someone else's hands. It was instantly recognizable, and yet clearly different.
... And I should really buy a tablet.

His tutorial was really helpful, I'm glad I found it.Β
Some tablets are expensive but they are really good tools. I bought a cheap old tablet but unfortunately the drivers wouldn't work for Windows 7 and up.

As you obviously have learned somewhere along the line; it's the little details that elevate a work from ordinary to extraordinary. Β You have filled this animation with lots of subtleties that make it "pop". Β Very good job, I am envious.

I tend to focus on little details, it's time consuming but I find it very enjoyable.
Many thanks Much appreciated

That is really good! Are you designing an anime or cartoon style game? Let me know if and when you come out with it!

Thank you very much!
I've made a few little flash games before (as more of a hobby) and I've got a decent idea for a manga/anime that me and my friend came up with, but that's probably a goal that's a bit out of my reach right now, it's kinda more into the concept art stage.Β
But designing a game would be awesome, I'd love to do it if I ever have the time.

Swweeett. I always say the concept art stage is the most fun! That and the reap the benefits stage. That's a good one too.

Did you rotoscope AlexRedFish? Because it sure as hell looks like it. Or like you tried to.
π: 0 β©: 1
Sir-Scrumps In reply to ExternusArmy [2014-06-24 03:37:38 +0000 UTC]
I watched his drawing process video to get an idea about how lightning works.
I'm not sure what you meant by rotoscope, like I didn't do any frame-by-frame copying, just watching the video once was enough to get started.

Mmmkay then. I'm still a bit skeptical but it doesn't really matter I guess.

I don't think that these final particles should be moving.
I think they better stay "at their places" and fade out.

Sir-Scrumps In reply to Ultimatechaosblast [2014-06-23 23:36:43 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I understand what you mean.Β
I was trying to simulate an after shock in the point of contact, like... trying to emphasize the excess energy of the strike 'flicking up' as it fades.
I'm still trying to figure out how it behaves, thanks for the feedback

Wonderful.Β Can't say how realistic it is (it's been years since lightning came that close to striking me...) but it sure makes the point.

Still trying to figure out how lightning realistically behaves but I guess it looks good for flash cartoony stuff.

groundhog22 [2014-06-23 19:43:37 +0000 UTC]
Very impressive! Β Even more so given that you drew it with a driverless tablet--I would go insane trying to work with one of those.

Gaah! I know, it's really frustrating without the drivers. Since my tablet is pretty old the drivers wont work for Windows 7 and above
