Description

Another day in the training room. I wanted to post this series of sketches from earlier today. I recently ran into a tumblr user (and fellow member of this platform) by the name of sambeawesome and found a nice collection of tutorials and resources that she has kindly cultivated. Among them was a set of free stock photos featuring poseable drawing figures; and because I can never have too many photo references, I decided to download them and use them as part of today's practice session. For much of the year, I've dedicated Mondays primarily for gesture practice, but I figured that it might be more productive to use these particular images to improve on my structural figure drawing technique. As it turned out, many of sambeawesome's photos had the figures in poses and angles I'm not used to drawing and I found the anatomical build of the figures quite instructive as I was practicing drawing them!

I wanted to dedicate an hour to this session, with my initial intent of spending about 3 minutes or so on each pose, but I immediately found out upon drawing my first figure that I'm quite... methodical when it comes to drawing even the basic forms of the figure - the boxes and cylinders upon which the anatomy is built in figure drawings. As such, each of these drawings took at least about seven minutes each to build, with more time seemingly put into the next one than the one prior. This is fine because I do think this was good practice, and I don't know if my speed is typical of a figure drawing of this detail for most learning artists. Still, I would like very much to improve my technique, especially in the areas of line quality and ability to see and draw foreshortened poses.

Because this was done with the intent of improving, I would very much like and appreciate constructive feedback on my technique and how I can improve on some of my weaknesses. The most difficult part of my artistic journey at the moment is knowing what I need to work on the most and getting input despite my willingness to be critiqued by the viewing public, which isn't the easiest request to make. Nevertheless, if you're viewing this submission and especially this comment, I do thank you. And with that, I'll slip away!
