Description "I just want them to know...
... that I exist."
~Quinn Shara, her inner most desire...
-------

Hey look! Star Wars OC AU art! But this is special, it's sort of like an alternate cover for my OC fan-comic-thingy, and a little mini celebration for it hitting 10 pages (with many more to come), and 1,500+ page views (as a whole)!

This is a bit of a contrast to the Main Cover , which has all the significant character that'll appear in this story, instead this features Quinn alone, and it serves as an embodiment of her feelings, as she gazes up at the sky and a convoy of ships passing by (those pictured are the tail end of said convoy), wishing she had some significance...

The background further serves as a living metaphor for her feelings, as Da'hren's surface is a wasteland, with no prospects for the young girl, the night sky is ablaze in stark contrast as the millions of stars beckon her, each and every one representing a new hope, a new possibility, but one that she cannot reach whilst grounded on Da'hren, who's only opportunities lie in picking the derelict remains of the old warships littering it's surface...

She may well fly among the stars someday however, find out in The First Farewell!
-------
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Quinn Shara, a Force-sensitive teenager, struggles with the monotony of life on a backwater world, she craves a greater meaning in life as the rest of the Galaxy passes her by, she may well find that meaning however, as she crosses paths with Isabelle Devon, the leader of a fledgling rebel group. Will the ambitious young girl seize the opportunity to finally take charge of her destiny, and pursue her dream of becoming a Jedi?

Start Here!  (I'm trying to add a page at least once a week!)
-------

Phew.... Man, this was reaallly fun to draw! And colour! Apart from the stars, they were a nightmare! XD Seriously, I WISH I had talent as a digital artist, using a brush to scatter the hundreds of stars, instead though I'm relying on a single ball-point, white ink gel-pen and sheer stubbornness... Agh, it took so long! ;A; Still, the rest was enjoyable, Quinn is my baby, she's my main and favourite OC, I'm really enjoying drawing her young like this too, seeing her as a hopeful teenager is a treat. Here she's obviously been scavenging the wrecks of Da'hren, in her bag she's carrying the head of an old Command Droid, along with other scrap within, dangling from her bag is a water flask and various tools, from a screwdriver to hydrospanner, she also has some data sticks in the pocket, they can sometimes be a valuable find, though most of the time they're corrupted from damage, it's a gamble however...

At Quinn's feet is a Phase I Clone-Trooper helmet, indicating that Da'hren saw action early in the Clone Wars, it actually served as somewhat of a stalemate, whilst it had little importance resource-wise (having been mined out generations past) Da'hren was located directly between the battle lines, furthermore Da'hren was located in close proximity to a nebula field, and the clouds of J'hen, the gas-giant in which Da'hren orbits, offered a shelter from the harsh nebula, further adding to it's strategic significance, throughout the entirety of the Clone Wars there were many battles fought above Da'hren, and as such it's surface is littered with wreckage, and years later a thriving community of scavengers has made the barren surface it's home.

Lastly, in the sky above, flies a CR90 Corvette, escorted by a Z95 Headhunter and a pair of Y-Wings, I love all of these ships (and Star Wars ship design philosophy in general), and worked from references (don't be afraid of using references!), my references are actual models, specifically Fantasy Flight's: X-Wing Miniatures Game Models, I have them all so far, and they're excellent reference material!

Yeesh, that was a lot, and my hands are aching like crazy, but this was a lot of fun, it's not perfect, but I'm happy with it regardless, I hope ya'll like it, as ever feedback is greatly appreciated!

That must've been a moving feeling, walking around the remnant of a Clone Wars battlefield.

I imagine it is a sobering feeling, especially for Quinn, as her parents were Jedi.

And now that I've been a selfish bugger, on to more serious matters!

This is realy lovely, I adore the details on teh corvette and Quinn's look of longing is so powerful. The little things like the assault and core ships in the background as well as the trooper helmet kinda serve as a reminder of the past even as Quinn is looking upwards towards her future.

It all comes together nicely and is quite emotive.

Oh shush, selfish me arse! XD

I'm really glad you like it! Heheh, well there's no better reference for the corvette than an actual model! (the Fantasy Flight X-Wing Miniatures version is pretty damn big, and amazingly detailed!) Aye, I tried to work a lot of subtext into it, such as the mostly barren wastes representing the absence of opportunity for Quinn and Da'hren, where as the stars in the sky represent the infinite possibilities awaiting her once she finally leaves.

Heheheh, thank you kindly, I aim for nothing less! XD

Oh believe me, I am very selfish, just look at how many characters and stories I steal!

And yeah, I recognized the model immediately.

I like that though, the contrast and use of detail to portray a subtext that might be missed unless you know the storyline.

Mye'h, steal is a terrible word to use, you borrow them and play around with them, and you asked for permission. XD

Heheh, I do love that model. XD

Well I do really like contrast, it's a very useful device. Aye, it's something that can easily be missed if you have no context to the story, but if you do have context, then it (hopefully) adds to the viewing experience. ^w^

*chuckle* and look at all the mischief I get up to!

I think it certainly adds to the piece if you know what's going on.

I don't know how I feel about posting this...but hey, it does somewhat answer the question.

"Ay-lana?"
Ay-lana looked up, smiling as Quinn approached her.
"You know, I don't know what I should call you anymore." she remarked.
Quinn frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Well, when I first met you it was 'Commander' Shara. Then you got promoted repeatedly until you reached 'General' Shara and during that time you also became 'Master' Shara and now you're my sister in law." Ay-lana smiled enigmatically. "So really, I don't know what to call you anymore."
Quinn stopped and looked at the younger woman for a moment before she started laughing.
"You're right, that is pretty bad." she sighed and shook her head. "How about 'Quinn'? I know your dad calls me 'Master Shara' but I don't really like that."
Ay-lana chuckled. "Dad never did care what others wanted to be called, he says its what you do that determines what you are."
Quinn hesitated, recognizing something else she and Master Nokta shared.
"Well, anyways he told me something a little while ago...and I wanted to ask-"
"-you want to know how you die." Ay-lana finished for her.
Nodding uncertainly, Quinn watched as Ay-lana's smile faded and she became very somber.
"I can't tell you Quinn."
"Can't or won't?" Quinn asked.
"Does it matter?"
Quinn frowned. "But it's my future, shouldn't I get to know what-"
"-what makes you think you should know?" Ay-lana asked. "It's bad enough that father told you and believe me I am going to go shout at him after this because that was a very foolish thing he did in telling you about that." she sighed. "But really Quinn, you don't deserve that."
"I don't deserve to know?" Quinn asked, growing angry.
"No, you do not. No one deserves to know how they die. Imagine living the rest of your life trying to watch for that moment, wondering if you might be able to dodge it, hesitating to act because you fear it may cause that moment to come even quicker." Ay-lana shook her head. "I won't curse you like that, let that be my curse alone, please."
"Then can you answer me something else?"
Ay-lana gazed at her for a moment before nodding.
"I may."
"Alright, am I remembered? Your father kinda convinced me of that but...well I know you can see the future."
"And you want to verify his word."
Quinn nodded. "Might as well, since you won't tell me what I want to know."
Ay-lana smiled sadly. "And this is why I hate being who I am sometimes," she sighed. "No one ever considers how this makes me feel...except for my father and mother...they never ask." her golden eyes were sad as she answered Quinn. "Yes, you are remembered. Your family will end with Orchid, but your legacy will live on thereafter and the Jedi we train will ultimately survive the Jedi Order."
Quinn stopped, looking at Ay-lana in suprise.
"Wait, 'we'?"
Ay-lana smiled. "Do you know of anywhere else I will be than here aboard the Starchaser? This is my home now, as much as it is yours, Jae's or Orchid's."
Quinn opened her mouth for a moment and then closed it again before finding her voice.
"Well, I guess I got what I asked for...you sure you want to stay here?"
"If I don't, then what?" Ay-lana asked. "I could be a hunter and armorer like my parents but really there is nothing in that for me. I'm too sympathetic for that life, and in this manner I can at least continue to learn of the past even as I explore the future."
"And if I said I didn't want you lurking around the Starchaser?"
Ay-lana looked hurt, but she hid it with a shrug.
"Do you think you could stop me Quinn?"
Quinn hesitated and then shook her head. "No, you'd just teleport wherever you wanted to and none of us could stop you." she stopped a moment and then wrapped Ay-lana in her arms, holding the young woman closely. "I'm sorry I asked you...and for what it's worth, I've always wanted siblings and now I've got a whole horde of you."
Ay-lana didn't move for a moment, and Quinn realized she might have overstepped her boundaries here. She didn't see Ay-lana embrace very many people. Her fears however were allayed as Ay-lana embraced her in turn.
"Thank you Quinn, it's nice to have another big sister."

In reality Quinn is a big softie, she sympathizes with the outcasts, those who stand alone, Ay-lana especially as she gains a better perspective of her burden...

Yeah, I kinda gather that.

I think she and Ay-lana start in a kind of odd way, not sure what to make of one another.

Overtime though I think she begins to understand just how alienated Ay-lana is from most people as she comes to know what she goes through on a regular basis with her visions.

Aye, I really like that, like there's an awkwardness between them at first, as Quinn doesn't really know how to converse with Ay-lana, Quinn being quite outgoing, as evidenced in her first meeting with Jaeriel. (which is just a great back and forth XD)

It's a problem Ay-lana often has (not always, but often) when she'll meet someone and see what's going to happen to them and while she may want to get to know them, a part of her is going to keep her distance because she can see what will ultimately happen.

She has that exact problem with Quinn, she meets Quinn and immediately sees what will ultimately befall Quinn and so to shield herself keeps her distance.

Eventually though she does get to know Quinn and company and in her own way becomes a friend to them despite what she knows will happen. I think in part that is due to the fact that Orchid immediately latches on to Ay-lana as Jaeriel's sister (oh my gosh, a source of information on Jaeriel!) and Quinn welcomes her for much the same reason.
