The days after Alderaan's destruction were a tense time, with the Empire breathing down our neck, we didn't have time to grieve, for those who lost loved ones it must have been especially hard... And then there was my Orchid... Over the holonet she'd become fast friends with Maya, an Alderaanian girl and kid sister of my then commander Isabelle, Orchid had never experienced loss like this before, it hit her so very hard, and she had no idea how to express it... For a couple of days she just didn't interact with anyone, she was in complete shock, when it finally sank in that she'd never see her friend again she fell apart, it broke my heart seeing her like that... Honestly, I had to bite my cheek to stop myself from crying whenever I saw her like that... But I couldn't let her see me crumble, I HAD to be her rock. Quinn Shara's memoirs, Rebel Alliance years, recalling the aftermath of Alderaan's destruction...-------
More Star Wars OC AU art, a continuation of this: A promise unheard (part 1?)
No big battles this time, no shocking plot twists, just simple family life, as a woman comforts her adoptive daughter following the tragic death of her friend, not every struggle is fought on the battlefield, the most significant moments are often the most mundane...
Orchid's about ten years old here, she's not a bedwetter, so this is really humiliating for her, she woke up about an hour before Quinn and washed her blanket, but Zai's ship's drier is busted so she's carrying it to the engine room (which is typically hot enough to dry fabric). By the way, Zai's ship is a YT-2400, one of my favourite ships ever, it's called the Daydream, though Zai certainly didn't give it that name... On the subject of names Quinn's X-Wing is lovingly named Charm Offensive.
Again, I draw Orchid crying... She must be so dehydrated, she's always crying!
Poor girl though, I'm sorry kid... ;_;By the way, the last panel, at the very bottom, is just a little extra, since I ain't drawn Zai in ages...
More to come soon, as Quinn prepares to face the Jedi Trial of Spirit, but will she like what she see's when she Faces the Mirror...?

Me too... But I love these moments also, when Quinn and Orchid embrace, they may not be related by blood, but they are indeed a family. ;_; It's okay, soon she'll meet Jaeriel!

Oh and in regards Orchid meeting Jaeriel, I guess it would be just after this that the pair meet for the first time because Jaeriel joins up right after the victory at Yavin (post evacuation from the Temple Base).

Aye, I wrote the Alderaan scene for several reasons, firstly to show how Quinn reacted to the feeling as the Force was Scarred by Alderaan's destruction, secondly to create a catalyst for conflict between Quinn and Isabelle, starting the tragic plotline leading to Isabelle's death (poor Isabelle, I feel so mean to her... ;_; ), and thirdly to (cruelly... ;_; ) shatter Orchid's confidence, making her terrified of losing friends, and becoming really clingy, anxious, and overly dependent...
Hmmm... I feel that, as a plot writer... I'm a bit of an asshole... ;_;
But I think the point with Orchid would work really well for her establishing a close connection to Jaeriel as Orchid desperately needs a friend, and that connection between those two can also serve to further anchor Quinn's trust in Jaeriel, leading to the three of them creating that family like bond.

Yeah, she really suffers quite the shock when that happens...I haven't addressed how that affects Kahan and his family. Since so many of them are Force sensitive I imagine that must have been a rather hellish moment for them all.
I definitely see how this can be a catalyst for so many different aspects of he different characters. You plan that sort of thing out far better than I do honestly and I find that very admirable and enviable! ...though yeah, I think we both are assholes to our characters at times...but that's what makes the characters so compelling eh?
And yeah, that is part of what drew me to Orchid and Jaeriel's relationship, the fact that Jaeriel is there searching for a cause and Orchid is there searching for a friend and both of them are strange and unusual in their own respects with their mysterious pasts though in Jaeriel's case that mystery is intentional. I really want to work more with your characters honestly, they're fascinating and very well designed.

Aye... ;_; Ooh, that'd be really interesting to see, seeing how each of them is effected by that dreadful moment, it'd be really interesting to see how it effects Jaeriel too, and see if it in anyway influences her decision to join the Rebellion.
Eheh, Well, I can't exactly say I plan things, more I'll get an idea and just run with it, see where it goes, it's definitely more spontaneity than planning, like, Isabelle's plot line came from me thinking Oh! An Alderaanian character who's driven by vengeance would be interesting! XD

I really like that, heck thats kind of the idea behind Quinn and Orchid too, I really like that theme, strangers brought together, becoming like a surrogate family, and with Quinn and Orchid their relationship is just as thick as blood, the whole idea of that surrogate family unit is the central theme of Quinn's story, and I'm really happy with how Jaeriel fits into that as well! Again, I'm honored you enjoy working with them, if ever you have any ideas you're more than welcome, I too really want to work with Jaeriel also, I really love her character, and can't wait to see her grow!

Yeah, I'd never really addressed it but since Kahan is the nexus of their link it would be very interesting (if cruel) to see how that ripples across the connection they share with each other and how they cope with it.
Well whatever it is you do, you do it very well!
Yeah, Orchid and Quinn literally become family in that regard, Jaeriel honestly is almost tailor made to fit right into that kind of aspect even with her own family firmly established and alive and well. I do have another idea now honestly, but I'm not entirely sure how it will work yet, it deals with how Jaeriel first meets Quinn (and possibly Orchid).

Me too, that's kinda' why I love shows like Attack on Titan, I'll admit I get some inspiration from shows like that for Quinn's story.
Characters come and go, even important ones, like Zai, and Kiri, and in the very end Quinn herself... Eheh, I'm gonna hate drawing Quinn's death, I love her so damn much... ;_;
Well honestly, it was seeing a lot of your AU artwork that first got me into the idea of creating my own Star Wars AU, and it started as just something for fun, I really only planned one or two drawings, but I've enjoyed it so much it's become a mainstay, and I've got to thank you both for that, y'know? So thank you for being an awesome inspiration! ^_^ They really do fit, and it makes me so happy. ;u;
