Description The days after Alderaan's destruction were a tense time, with the Empire breathing down our neck, we didn't have time to grieve, for those who lost loved ones it must have been especially hard... And then there was my Orchid... Over the holonet she'd become fast friends with Maya, an Alderaanian girl and kid sister of my then commander Isabelle, Orchid had never experienced loss like this before, it hit her so very hard, and she had no idea how to express it... For a couple of days she just didn't interact with anyone, she was in complete shock, when it finally sank in that she'd never see her friend again she fell apart, it broke my heart seeing her like that... Honestly, I had to bite my cheek to stop myself from crying whenever I saw her like that... But I couldn't let her see me crumble, I HAD to be her rock. Quinn Shara's memoirs, Rebel Alliance years, recalling the aftermath of Alderaan's destruction...
-------

More Star Wars OC AU art, a continuation of this: A promise unheard (part 1?)

No big battles this time, no shocking plot twists, just simple family life, as a woman comforts her adoptive daughter following the tragic death of her friend, not every struggle is fought on the battlefield, the most significant moments are often the most mundane...

Orchid's about ten years old here, she's not a bedwetter, so this is really humiliating for her, she woke up about an hour before Quinn and washed her blanket, but Zai's ship's drier is busted so she's carrying it to the engine room (which is typically hot enough to dry fabric). By the way, Zai's ship is a YT-2400, one of my favourite ships ever, it's called the Daydream, though Zai certainly didn't give it that name... On the subject of names Quinn's X-Wing is lovingly named Charm Offensive.

Again, I draw Orchid crying... She must be so dehydrated, she's always crying! Poor girl though, I'm sorry kid... ;_;

By the way, the last panel, at the very bottom, is just a little extra, since I ain't drawn Zai in ages...

More to come soon, as Quinn prepares to face the Jedi Trial of Spirit, but will she like what she see's when she Faces the Mirror...?

Eheh, anyhow, I hope ya'll like this, and can understand my awful handwriting! Feedback Always appreciated! ;w;

That may be, but you're also you're own worst critic and since you're always looking at your own work it means you have a blindness to your own material's quality.

Nah, I can compare my work to others work and see the difference. It's not that I can't tell if I'm better than someone, but I clearly can see if I'm worse as well. So I'm aware of my 'quality'.

I think I've told you this before, but quality of art is not just based on the art itself but on the feel of the artistry and your feel really does set you apart.

I know quality is not everything, I guess... But I can't see anything else worthwhile either in my pics honestly. But I guess I know what would you say so I save you from saying it again!

You have a unique manga-esque style that is highly emotive and very powerful when it comes to conveying emotions and since I've started watching you and talking with you you've improved wehther you believe it or not.

This is really touching, I feel like I should say more but I really don't know what more there is to be said in any fashion resembling proper articulation.

Really tragic but beautifully done.

I'm really glad you think so, heheh, aw man, don't worry, any and all input is greatly appreciated, no matter how large or small.

In truth it's moments like this that I enjoy drawing the most, not so much the sorrow, but the embrace, like, these two need each other in order to push on through the dark times, much like a soldier carrying a wounded comrade, a simple mundane hug can be just as important...

I think part of what enables you to portray emotion so strongly is that you enjoy seeing emotion so much and understanding what causes it. That's a trait that both you and rayn44 share methinks and you share it through you art.

Heheh, I guess so... I have Aspergers Syndrome, and I'm always worried about understating emotion, I find emotions and body language really hard to read, so I make a conscious effort to portray them as best I can in my art.
I'm very glad you think so, but I've got a long way to go before I'm as good as rayn44 , her art is amazing, she's a massive inspiration, and through her wonderful art I found your stories! ^_^

Wehther you understand it or not you certainly portray it well so bravo.

Your style is also different from hers so 'as good as she is' is something of a silly goal. Your art is certainly rougher but it is no less the stronger for its vision and power.
