Description Elysium City—the last safe habitat for the human race. Protecting the city's citizens and the business world that keeps this tiny world turning from the mysterious Geister monsters are the frontline heroes under contract—the Contract Riders!

So I've been working on this on and off for a couple months. These are the player characters of the Kamen Rider TTRPG I've been playing in since last August, Contract Riders, a game which is at once very funny and very dramatic and thrilling (courtesy of the GM, Kuuga_Gameing ). It's set in an original setting, albeit drawing elements from both Kamen Rider Black and Kamen Rider Kuuga.

Contract Riders is set after a climate apocalypse, when all that remains of the human race is Elysium City—a vast metropolis and outlying areas, contained within the Aegis, an enormous forcefield dome keeping out the deadly polluted atmosphere and impossibly harsh weather conditions. A utopian planned community never intended to be mankind’s last refuge, Elysium is struggling to support a population it was never designed for, stagnating under the effects of deregulation and privatization, and dependent on the miraculous mineral resource known as K-Stones to keep itself running.

Plagued by attacks from bizarre monsters called “Geisters”, the humans of Elysium are protected by the parahuman warriors known as the Contract Riders; enhanced humans who use K-Stone-based technology in battle, typically either working for hire using apps such as "Kyck", or contracted directly to corporations for security work or public relations. Their enhancements are divided into three categories: organic-type (or "Bioriders"), cybernetic-type (or "Roboriders"), and hard-light-type (or "Mahōriders").

Our heroes are:

  • Parker Prophet — Contract Rider Java (centre). Coffee enthusiast and Rider fanatic; a simple person in a complicated world. Friendly, enthusiastic and protagonist-coded, if a little socially awkward, Parker is constantly tinkering with and improving their gear and developing new forms and upgrades. However, when confronted with uncomfortable truths, they tend to just Not Think About Them rather than dealing with the facts.
Parker uses the Artisanal Driver, a "homebrewed" belt they developed with the help of their aunt Barb, a former Rider system R&D technician; as a Roborider, they have cybernetic "hardpoints" implanted across their body to allow the Java armor to interface with their nervous system, and wield an array of custom weapons such as the Half-Caf Calibur and the Chocolate Magnum. Played by SameAsItEverWoz .
Drop! The perfect cappuccino! Rich and delicious with a sweet kick.
  • Hannah Shirogane — Contract Rider Wyvern (centre-right). Chronically ill and chronically bad-tempered. Forced into Contract Riding thanks to poverty and mounting medical bills; though her Biorider surgery seems to have caused a remission in her degenerative illness, it’s not clear what other effects it might have. Cranky, sarcastic and hard to like, not helped by her struggling to empathise with others.
Hannah's belt, the Gene Driver, uses a vial of DNA to catalyse artificial organs implaneted into her body to transform her into a human-bat hybrid armed with bladed "wing sabers" on her arms, able to unleash a debilitating sonic shriek. As a result of amped-up adrenaline and pent-up rage, Wyvern has a tendency towards extreme violence and bloodlust while in Rider form. Played by me.
    Transgenesis! [sound of bat shrieks]
  • Roger Chaumet — Contract Rider Luxe (centre-left). The Golden Son; the most insightful himbo you'll ever meet. Son of Marianne Chaumet, head of human resources at the Soleil D'Or luxury goods corporation; a social media influencer, fancy lad and public relations Rider for the corporation. Roger is ruthless, smart and socially savvy, but very naive and easily manipulated by people he trusts.
Roger transforms with the jewelry-themed Raiment Driver, a Mahōrider belt based on a large diamond K-Stone, turning him into the "shining knight" Luxe; armed with a transforming gun-rapier hybrid, he can also utilise the shine of his suit and K-Stone to blind enemies with the "Gemme Eblouissante". Played by SonataWaves .
Richesse! Charisme! Gloire! Luxe Cuivre! Cuivre!
  • Sean Irons — Contract Rider Dolmen (right). 28-year-old man with the soul of a 40-year-old. Used to work security at a mine in the rural Gaibhne region, until he chose to move into Elysium City proper in the hope of getting more fair treatment to the mines from his employer, Ringfort Resource Extraction. This was a bad idea, and everything in his life has been making him miserable ever since.
Sean uses the Ailwee Driver to transform into a fossil-based Biorider variant, using the DNA of an Irish cave bear; his alternate forms use Strata Disks to swap out the stone surrounding the fossil, such as the limestone-clawed Karst Strata or the ammonite shields of Shale Strata. Dolmen fights like a wrestler, using his gravity powers to crush foes into submission with his signature move, the Dolmen Drop kick. Played by M0hairSam .
Re-genesis! Kaseki no fear láidir! Dolmen!
  • Mariella "Mari" Posada — Contract Rider Papillon (left). High-energy streamer covering up for low self-esteem. Following a failed music career, Mari was hired by the Adonis corporation to do PR and test their Rider systems, streaming her Geister fights online. While a popular public figure, she keeps a strict divide between “Mari” and “Papillon” as a way of dealing with her anxiety, and struggles with the corporation's demands of her.
Mari uses the Crystalis Driver, which grants 7 differently-coloured forms themed after different butterflies, via 7 small Mahōrider K-Stones; however, they are generally picked by the stream chat based on popular vote, so she has little control over it. A flexible and flashy combatant, Papillon wields the Shutterfly (a combined microphone, selfie stick, bō staff and laser gun). Played by Speed_Freak01 .
Papill-On! Idol in Azure! Blue Morpho!

(Of course, these descriptions only reflect things at the start of the campaign — since then, Sean has delved deep into the history of his hometown, Mari has broken away from her corporate masters to forge her own path, Parker's faith in the world around them has been shaken, and Roger and Hannah have found themselves caught up in a prophecy about the Black Sun and the Shadow Moon...)

I'm hoping to do more Contract Riders art (alternate forms, NPCs, etc) soon, because it's a fantastic campaign and one of the best things I've ever been part of!

(Edited 2021-05-14 to add Java's scarf and fix shading on Dolmen; edited 2021-08-08 to adjust Luxe's coat; edited 2021-09-21 to adjust Wyvern's belt and to completely rework Luxe's coat, because I've never been happy with it; edited 2022-04-08 to add item storage on Java, Luxe and Dolmen.)
