Description
Elysium City, home of the Contract Riders , is not the only populated place within the Aegis Dome. A large segment of the dome is taken up by the rural Asphodel region, which contains several smaller towns that help to sustain the city itself. One of these is Gaibhne, a mining town with heavy ties to the Ringfort Resource Extraction corporation; as the mines are often a focal point of attacks from Geisters, which can manifest underground, Ringfort employs several Contract Riders to keep the Gaibhneach mine safe.
The Ringfort Riders are:
- Sean Irons — Contract Rider Dolmen (centre). A Contract Rider who was recruited by Ringfort from the Gaibhne Rider Stable five years ago. Popular among the people of Gaibhne for his workman’s attitude and warm heart, Sean worked as part of the mine's security team, protecting it and the surrounding town from Geister attacks. Around a year ago, though, Sean and his Double Rider and romantic partner Tamsin Neagh discovered a conspiracy to cover up a horrific and lethal disease affecting the people of Gaibhne - K-lung, an illness that caused people's bodies to gradually turn to stone from the inside out. The two kept the knowledge secret while they failed to agree on a solution; eventually, a desperate Sean took up a transfer offer to Elysium City itself, believing that if he gained more popularity as a public figure it would increase the effectiveness of any whistleblowing attempt. This lead to a messy breakup with Tamsin, and the end of their professional relationship.
Sean's belt, the Ailwee Driver, uses DNA taken from a cave bear fossil to transform him into the strongman Contract Rider Dolmen. For more information, see here.
Re-genesis! Kaseki no fear láidir! Dolmen! - Tamsin Neagh — Contract Rider Rhombopteryx (centre-right). A Contract Rider who joined Ringfort at around the same time as Dolmen, Rhombopteryx is no-nonsense and dedicated to her work, maintaining a strict distance from the citizens of Gaibhne — the result of her belief that the safer people feel, the safer they will actually be, something she calls the "cryptid peace". Out of the suit and off-duty, however, she is much more relaxed and sociable, with a love for all things weird and wonderful. This, however, has changed since she and Dolmen learned of K-lung, and Sean's subsequent transfer to Elysium City; mounting stresses have led her to be colder and more businesslike, even off the battlefield.
Tamsin uses the Inverness Driver—a design cousin of the Ailwee Driver—to transform using the DNA of a fossilised Elasmosaurus, granting her both agility and strength. In battle, she wields the Platyurus Pole, a staff with bladed and blunt ends; her weapon can change its shape to match her alternate forms, accessed through Strata Disks which include Yellow Floodplain and Pierre Shale. While her former partner could create gravity wells through his attacks, Rhombopteryx can stir up gravimetric orbits around herself, lining foes up for the Rhombopteryx Roundhouse.
Re-genesis! Kaseki no cathach muirgheidh! Rhombopteryx! - Mostafa Tlalib — Contract Rider Ziggurat (centre-left). Mentor to Sean and Tamsin and the head of security at the Gaibhne mine, Mostafa is widely liked—less for his businesslike and slightly awkward personality, and more for his dedication to doing what’s best for the people of Gaibhne and the mine workers. Considered a potential future Grand Foreman, Mostafa has little talent or interest for politics, leading him to focus on the Gaibhne installation rather than on currying favour with Ringfort's corporate offices.
Mostafa transforms with the Ziggurat System, a Roborider belt with powers based around defense and structural integrity, using modular drones with gravity field generators to manipulate the terrain around him. While not originally compatible with it, the Ziggurat System has been upgraded with a module on the side of the belt that lets him make use of Strata Disks to empower and re-configure his drones; his most commonly used disk is Sandstone Strata, which transforms them into a drill weapon.
Ziggurat, engage! - Morgan Rhys — Contract Rider Draig (right). A Rider scouted by Mostafa as a potential replacement for Dolmen at the Gaibhne mine, Morgan is currently a temporary "intern" on the security team, as the process of formally hiring them has stalled due to corporate apathy and Mostafa’s insistence that Sean review his replacement. Quick-witted, sharp-tongued and high-energy, Morgan is often abrasive and hard to like due to their lack of a filter — something that seems to be getting worse thanks to the pressures of their job, paired with the deteriorating conditions in Elysium. Morgan is an online friend of Parker Prophet, aka Contract Rider Java , and both are members of the message board CRChat.
As Contract Rider Draig, Morgan uses the Glamorgan Driver, an evolution of the technology behind Dolmen and Rhombopteryx's Rider Systems using DNA from a dracoraptor fossil, granting them a level of speed and agility uncomon amongst "Fossilizer" Riders. In combat, they use their belt's gravity manipulation powers primarily on themself, striking from unexpected angles with their Bull Cliff Batons, a pair of bladed tonfa; lacking the sheer power and immobilizing abilities of other Fossilizers such as Rhombopteryx and Dolmen, their preferred tactic is to draw Geisters to the surface, where they can use their superior speed to its full extent.
Re-genesis! Kaseki no heliwr cyflym! Draig! - Tupac Huaman — Contract Rider Inti (left). The late Double Rider partner of Ziggurat and the second mentor of Sean and Tamsin, Tupac was a stark contrast to Mostafa; boisterous, outgoing and effortlessly charming, he was for many years the "face" of Gaibhne and Ringfort Resource Extraction.
Tupac died around two years into the younger Riders' careers during the attack of the Cave Lion Geister, with the Ringfort autopsy declaring his suit respirator had experienced a catastrophic failure, filling his lungs with dust. The other Riders mourned him and honored him through their work, until Sean discovered the cover-up of K-lung, which appeared to be the true cause of Tupac's death. As Sean has further delved into the secrets of Elysium, the memory of Inti has hung heavily over him.
Tupac used the Huatana System, a variant of the Ziggurat System that focused on control of heat and light. His signature weapon, the Machu Picchu Maul, was a star-shaped mace that could be super-heated to punch through Geisters' hides; when teamed with his Double Rider partner, Ziggurat would use his powers to box opponents into a corner before Inti dealt a devastating blow they could not escape from.
Inti, engage!
Barring Dolmen — one of the player characters — these characters were created and developed over time; Rhombopteryx and Ziggurat were named off-the-cuff by Sean's player M0hairSam and subsequently developed into full characters, while I came up with the concepts for Draig and Inti, who were fleshed out as a communal effort.
Dolmen, Rhombopteryx and Draig were loosely themed around the Celtic nations of Ireland, Scotland and Wales; each transforms using fossils from the country they're based on, and their jingles use a mix of Japanese and Irish, Scots Gaelic or Welsh based on each character. ("The fossil strongman", "the fossil spearfighter", and "the fossil speedy hunter", respectively.) As a side note, though Rhombopteryx uses elasmosaurus DNA, she's more specifically themed after the Loch Ness Monster.
Ziggurat is based on the Great Ziggurat of Ur, while Inti is themed after Machu Picchu; the two have similar designs and belts, with the core of Ziggurat's belt based on Kamen Rider Stronger's while Inti's is based on Kamen Rider Amazon's belt. (As a plus, this ties into Inti's condor motif, inspired by the Temple of the Condor at Machu Picchu.)
Dolmen, Rhombopteryx, Ziggurat and Inti were designed by Speed_Freak01 based on design notes from M0hairSam ; Draig was designed by me, using the Dolmen design as a springboard. Rhombopteryx, Draig, Ziggurat and Inti were all played by game master RedlineSSB . Templates are by Taiko554 .
