Description
New profile: =ElucidatorI should mention that looking over this tutorial gave me a good sense of skin-painting. Also check out Linda Bergkvist's. But not on her site, or your computer will die, as furiae.com has been compromised.
I wanted to create a higher-grade digital portrait. I've also meant to do a self-portrait for awhile. Two birds with one stone! I had worked four hours when PS crashed
I had considered adding some water droplets?
Intuos 4, PSCS4
Why would you even want to steal this? It's obviously me. Nonetheless, this art is strictly © to me.
PS: It's 6:33 in the morning, and I just finished this! Hooray for art all-nighters!
EDIT: I added those four water droplets there. Are they good or bad?

You mean from the usual ID pictures, or from my gallery? D:
Either way, thank you!

You have a wonderful set of peepers!
The shading and tones on this are fantastic, very nice.

Haha, thank you very much!
Like I wrote somewhere on dA, I'm getting OK with referenced images, so now it's just a matter of bringing my imagined ones up to par...

Of course!
It makes sense, it's easier to draw what you see than what you don't. I know I definitely have an easier time drawing from photos than from my imagination.

And for me, drawing without more reference is much more important. Hence - practice!!

Hmmm, the four water droplets are alright, but I would say, you'd need to add a bit of a wetlook. like the on near the nose has a trail of where it comes from. The others just looks placed.

I was checking out your profile and was immediately caught off-guard by your ID. Your eyes are incredibly striking, almost lure you in.
The water droplets are beautifully painted, but as ~Liennepien mentioned, I'd add another one or two on your other cheek for the sake of composition.

Thank you!
Maybe later today I'll try painting a few more droplets.
Thanks for the feedback!

The droplets look great, but for compositions sake, I'd add another one at your other cheek.

Really realistic, I thought it was a photo when I saw it in the thumbnail... Eh, your face reminds me of James Blunt, actually... I don't know why, but it's a compliment

I like the eyes especially. Very arresting. Did you work from life, or a photo?

SkarValidus In reply to Songwind [2011-08-13 19:17:01 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! From a photo. I wouldn't be able to get the lines precise enough otherwise, and it would come out looking a) less like me and b) more sloppy.

I dunno if you should add water droplets.
As it stands, looks like your hair is wet and the rest of you is dry.
To make your face look wetter you should add more highlights to it.
Maybe stick your head in water and take a look at it that way. Maybe even take a pic for reference. Or google some images of wet portraits?
This is amazing though. You don't have to change anything if you don't really wanna.

Thanks for the thoughts. This was done directly off a photo I took after getting out of the shower, wherein my skin looked dryish but my hair still soaked. I was just thinking that a spray of water might be fun

Well this being you, you are very handsome! xD
I think adding water droplets would look really cool! The skin looks shiny -- like it could have been moist and your hair also looks damp (I mean this is a NICE way xD Not that your hair is damp and dull, that's not what I mean.......xD)
I love the eyes! Really detailed!
And as for Linda Bergkvist -- how would we look her up?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SkarValidus In reply to Leovagirl [2011-08-13 19:15:25 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
Yep, I took the reference photo after getting out of the shower, so the dampness is 100% intentional.
Eyes are just waaay too fun to paint
And you can see Linda's art on her dA page, . As for her tutorials, I suppose a Google crawl would be best, though I can't find her skintones guide anywhere. But she's a really incredible painter.

Ohh thanks! Sadly she didn't post her tutorials there :/ I guess I'll google some of the tutes. Do you know how long her site's been down?
