Description A friend of mine was going through some difficult, frustrating times in his life. So I did this piece to give the demons inside him the voice he could not.

Be true.

this is a step back from the ink you usually use, the cross hatching is still there, you've used pencil and in a way it works better with the natural skin tones. the shadow is done perfectly and so does the lighting, which also help reflect his emotion. god emotion and expression is so well done.

another great one skritch

flawless look of realism, the lighting and shading contrasts are phenomenal, and the skill with which you express the emotion is ridiculous! i can almost hear him screaming in front of me. he reminds me of the big scary Lycan in "Underworld" very cool

Stunning piece. The portrait is really good and has a lot of emotion in it

Wish I was good at portraits, but when I'm frustrated or something I draw stupid figures who kick or shoot each other This is way better

Great drawing and shading. I suppose you have a cross-hatching type style? It looks awesome has it has a neat effect. the highlights are perfectly placed. Do you use photo references?

Ugh, there's not much I can add except, damn that dope.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

skritch In reply to DeathRetsu [2005-01-10 04:38:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the compliment on the drawing and shaing of Shout [link] DeathRetsu. Yes, you are correct, I have developed a crosshatching type style, even with my pencil work.

It developed because I have been working with pen and ink longer than I can remember and longer than I had been doing pencil work. And so, when i started doing pencil work, that style just carried over. LOL In addition, I do alot of pencil work with mechanical pencils of the type you buy in office supply stores and those pencils have a limited range of tone variations that they will achieve. Therefore, I began doing a crosshatching to get the tonal values I wanted. (Sanctuary [link] is a good example of this) I have used regular graphic artist pencils but it is usually just to help achieve higher levels of contrast. Probably a lot more than you wanted to know, LOL

To answer your question of whether I use photo references - usually, but not always. It depends on the piece. This piece, Shout, for example was not done from a photo but rather from a live model and memory.

Hope to see you in my gallery again soon!
