Description
After a bit of delay, I'm proud to post the second of six for the Shimmering Strings project. (See Sunset's link below for the original description.) Applejack lets her hair down occasionally as the second violin player for the group.>.< - "It's not a vah-lyn, it's a fiddle!"
Ah yes - my mistake. Now that the violin (and fiddle) players are set, the other instruments will start to come into the picture with the rest of the crew.
I was on the fence between AJ and Rarity for this one. Decided the "fiddle" aspect fit well with Miss Apples here in the end. Also made the "controversial" decision to go without the hat, heh. I think leaving it aside and going with the long/loose hair fits well with the style and theme for this project though.Part 1: Sunset ( fav.me/d7vrpqe )

The Devil went down to Georgia. He was lookin' for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind. He was willing to make a deal
When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.
And the Devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said "Boy, let me tell you what."
"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player, too.
And if you'd care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you.
Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the Devil his due.
I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'cause I think I'm better than you."
The boy said, "My name's Johnny, and it might be a sin,
But I'll take your bet; and you're gonna regret 'cause I'm the best there's ever been."
Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard.
'Cause Hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals it hard.
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold,
But if you lose the devil gets your soul.
The Devil opened up his case and he said, "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from his fingertips as he rosined up his bow.
And he pulled the bow across the strings and it made an evil hiss.
And a band of demons joined in and it sounded something like this.
When the Devil finished, Johnny said, "Well, you're pretty good ol' son,
But sit down in that chair right there and let me show you how it's done."
"Fire on the Mountain." Run, boys, run!
The Devil's in the house of the rising sun;
Chicken's in the bread pan picking out dough.
Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no.
The Devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat.
And he laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Johnny's feet.
Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back if you ever wanna try again,
I done told you once—you son of a bitch—I'm the best that's ever been."
And he played:
"Fire on the Mountain." Run, boys, run!

Wow, applejack's clothin choice... You show respect to the character. The loose hair is also a nice touch.

I think her music would be very countryish and quite energetic, perhaps something like "The Devil Went Down to Gerogia."

I think once I finish with Fluttershy (hoping tonight or tomorrow), I'ma do a pass of updates to these other three. In AJ's case here, the more I look at it, I think her legs are just too long, esp the upper part. It's close to show-accurate from EQG1 proportions, but just looks odd in this sitting pose.
I'm feel I'm also getting a bit more proficient with each one that's added to the list, so it'll be good to come back and apply some of the new knowledge to these older ones.

So is Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie gonna be playing the Violin throughout the Shimmering Strings series?

Just these two for this instrument. I have ideas for the others, but part of the fun will be revealing them as the pictures come out. Still not 100% sure what to do for Flutters though. I've even laughed a bit with the idea of two different vocal parts for her (one with and one without the poison-joke influence, heh). It'll probably be something instrumental in the end though. Since the plant is essentially magical, which wouldn't fit so well on this side of the mirror.
