Nestorious really, put a hekin shirt on you weirdo.

Man, what a difference a year makes, I dug up the initial torso study you made for Nestorious to compare and I'm quite impressed with the changes. it's subtle, but your anatomy and digital painting only continues to improve.

I'd say the biggest improvement I see is the overall depth and volume of the piece; Nestorious looks significantly more three dimensional in this newer piece. Your use of shadows and highlights is much better and it really makes your paintings feel more believable and lifelike.

I feel this newer piece also shows Nestorious' age better, particularly in the face. I feel he looks much younger in the original study where as now he reads as late twenties-early thirties which I believe is the age you wanted for his yes? I do think the chest hair that the original piece had though was a good addition and helped represent Nestorious as an older adult as opposed to a teen or young twenty something.

Great work! Every year I see more and more improvement and I'm so proud of you! <3

You're so sweet thank you!!!
I didn't add hair this time around since I realized I was using the hair to contour and sculpt him a bit, so I wanted to focus entirely on just his body and nothing else, save for a little snail trail. His face is better I think since I am aiming for late twenties, not sure if the Structure is right for a man his age/profession but I'm def getting there. Thank you for the critique!
(see I got it right away this time)

I put together a collage of photo references, and I also generate 3d Model references in a program called Portrait Studio. I then do some warmup drawings and once I have that finished I go into the study, rendering everything greyscale first and then adding color. It's a lot of practice, study, and sometimes the rendering isn't the problem, it's the anatomy. IN this case it was both.

dang; I'll have to check out that program. Seems really cool
how long does it normally take you to do a study? For my classes, we would typically get a few days because classes are 2 hrs. 45 minutes

This particular study was 4 hours total, about the same as my regular paintings, although I did a lot of experimenting so if I was just streamlining this with no deviation it'd take me about 2 hours.

This is Portrait studio if you're interested in purchasing it, it's on sale right now for 50% off which is good  istebrak.com/store/portraitstu…

If you do buy it, please don't share around the download file. They're an independent two-man team, and it helps to buy it from them directly.
