Description Flat colored sketch commission for Merle (FA) of a friend's mithra dragoon character (Final Fantasy XI).

Don't laugh at my ineptitude with anthros! D;
I hardly ever draw them and I opted not to use any sort of reference material for the pose.. which is bad on my part, but I still like how it came out? I hope that makes sense! Convenient hiding of the face is convenient, but I REALLY liked having the back front and center instead of the usual about face.

Good change of pace from the norm, though. I could get used to this ~

Secret streamed all of the line and coloring with =Shadowmanic again over livestream. CX

I love the Face!XD

Kidding, I really love the VERY dynamic pose, I hardly draw human proportions digitally because its way to hard for me. You should definitly draw more of themC:

Always nice to see FFXI art C: Especially since I'm going back to it rather soon! haha
I love the posing of this. It seems as if the wyvern is pushing off the mithras arm which I thought was a nice touch! Shows the partnership of the two.
Loved how you drew the wyvern, makes me wish they looked that way in the game! The armor is great too and I like the almost subtle gradient of the armors purple color going up the armor.

I thought I was done with the game, and then you draw this >.>
I'm starting to miss my little wyvern.
This looks like a wonderful piece!

Really love how this came out. <3 You draw armor so well! XD I think the poses came out great even if you didn't use any reference. Just out of curiosity how do you come up with all these nice dynamic poses? Do you just do most of them from your head (with lots of practice) or do you use photos or something for reference most of the time? Hope that doesn't sound to silly I've just always loved how your poses seem so natural. Also really love the contrast between the warm and cooler colours in this.<3

I come up with all of my own poses! It's.. harder than it seems when I crank out a piece a day though. =Shadowmanic can attest to my early morning rants of 'wtf this pose just isn't working', 'omfg it's not dynamic enough', and even 'fffffffffuuuu it's not how at all I imagined it! I'll just stick with what I know for now!' XD

I've never been great with loopy and whimsical poses, so I prefer the more grounded approach -- having a character move on the canvas as they would in the real world. Never done me wrong!

DRAGOON!!! Sorry for the excitement. Loved that game and job.. next to SMN. O and about the art, without saying, it is very good. I like how you are creating depth by using the wyverns tail. The coloring seems to have a very polished look to it. Keep up the good work.

Can't wait to see this one finnished.

It is finished, actually. It was a flat color sketch (which means no shading).

Mithra aren't really anthros, they are human women with orange skin and cat ears and tails tacked on.

I do love that she is looking away, so different from what I'm used to. Adds to the air of mystery.

DarthSpikeinator In reply to Furrama [2011-10-26 00:07:48 +0000 UTC]

They are described as 'humanoid cats' covered in fur, so I think they can qualify as anthros

Furrama In reply to DarthSpikeinator [2011-10-26 00:28:02 +0000 UTC]

Physiologically they are cat girls. I usually require a little more beast in my humans, (or vise versa), before I'm willing to call it an anthro, at least as the term is commonly used on dA.

DarthSpikeinator In reply to Furrama [2011-10-26 10:53:18 +0000 UTC]

Seeing that the therm 'furry' is flinged onto anyone who dares to draw an anthro... It doesn't quite make anything said on DA a standard

Ah well, catgirl/anthro... I'll stick with the therm 'catgirls' for these critters XD

Furrama In reply to DarthSpikeinator [2011-10-26 19:43:50 +0000 UTC]

That would be the world in general dear, not dA. dA is one of the most friendly places for anthro/not furry out there. It isn't perfect, but it is what it is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarthSpikeinator In reply to Furrama [2011-10-26 20:28:17 +0000 UTC]

I've seen enough on DA to be careful to who I talk about what

Could be that DA is one of the most anthro-friendly places and I appreciate not getting the name of 'I-like-to-dress-up-as-anthro-animals' when I draw one of my anthros (or whatever the definition of a furry is these days...).

I'm glad I started talking to you though, you got a nice gallery going there

Oh thank you

dA has its little circles. It is interesting when they overlap unintentionally, someone usually goes bonkers.
