Which models are they?

Slater's Prince kit for Duke and the rest, bar the cheap Binnie wagon are 'The Line Side Hut' products. The blue brake van is the Ffestiniog's 'curly roof' which is seen behind Stuart here.

The unusual Aberllefenni slab wagon I just like so i'm fine with adding it to the Corris element on the MSR given that there were a few mining companies. Finally the Dinorwic Railway's Royal Coach

i've repurposed for the MSR Manager and any other bigwigs.

SleeperAgent1  what scale are these?

SleeperAgent1 In reply to fastforwardtt [2018-03-17 19:04:49 +0000 UTC]

They're 16mm scale aka SM32 which is modelled at a 1:19.5 ratio.

Yarp! I'll get back to your reply after sleep but here's an alternative pic to show Duke's length (guessing with the missing cab area and the drawbar a bit but it should be close).

Do you have a place to run these rolling stock and Dukie? or are they displays?

SleeperAgent1 In reply to The-ARC-Minister [2018-03-17 02:05:54 +0000 UTC]

Currently I have no track for them but after lambing is out of the way i'll be clearing off my old 4mm Wellsworth stuff that never got too far and starting a more simple SR layout in its place, though i've not decided on which RWS location to model yet.
Regarding the MSR side of things I have no plans layout wise but it would have to be outdoors as I only really have one large room to make an interior layout in.....i'll see if I can get 'Dukie' working first as building a chassis and the world of battery+radio control are new fields for me.

Looking really good so far Sleeper. I can only imagine how much space the MSR coaches are gonna take up (dependent on how many you do).

I really don't know honestly; but I do know that I don't think we should be doing this on one of Sleeper's pics.

Ok. Well. I'll just come up with a new line instead. And see what ideas you have there. But not on sleeperagent's pics.

Thanks lad
At 33cm I thought the Curly Roof kit was quite long but checking in photos the coaches are going to be even more impressive! The brake van is easy to pick out in Duke's book but the rest seen are pretty ambiguous so i'm still deciding on which kits to go with. Awdry's two Bug Boxes from his layout are old K's Kits of the No 3 & 4 prototype though so when they're finally available in 16mm i'll be up for doing them and will probably get some of the other Bugs already on the market to fulfil the MSR's early period needs.

No probs at all.
I've had a look at the wiki page for the Mid Sodor coaches and, apparently, the coaches you see in the stories are numbers 10, 16 and 23 and The Picnic consisting of only number 16; I'm not sure if there are kits available of these coaches. But yeah, they're gonna be pretty impressive if you do get the opportunity to make them.

SleeperAgent1 In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2018-03-17 02:32:39 +0000 UTC]

I think one of them matches up but the listing is arbitrary. Basically anything on the TTTE wiki should be taken with a pinch of salt (wonderfully useful as the site is) so in lieu of anything being a solid match in the illustrations i've tried reading up on FR's rolling stock as a check in terms of timescale. Their pioneering bogie coaches postdate the MSR's opening, especially before the mountain road section was completed so Bug Boxes do make sense for that phase and I was thinking of given them a light blue during that period as on Awdry's models but i'm avoiding crossing the Rubicon with the bogies. Money is factor but ultimately there's no need to rush and a new range of coaches are in the pipeline so i'm considering some of those. In the meantime I've got Duke to get started (so far only the tender sides have been folded really) and there's always the freight side of things too.
Slater's Baldwin kit looks complicated and is rather expensive so Stanley is one for later and i've no current plans for Falcon and Stuart either but PDF Models are supposed to be doing Edward Thomas and Sir Haydn kits eventually to compliment Talyllyn and Dolgoch so....

ToyFreddEnt In reply to SleeperAgent1 [2018-03-17 06:10:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's a point 'cause I was just looking back at the illustrations now and the coaches that the wiki says that they are based upon and they, more or less, seem to be the number 23 coach with a flatter roof like the number 16 coach. As for cost, that's just one of those things that are a given with projects like this and it's easy to fall into the trap of spending virtually all of what you have on what is essentially a hobby.
On that note of Duke, he is coming along very nicely from the two pics you've shown of him, I see you're going down the Awdry route in terms of not including the faces on your models which I think is quite nice and almost refreshing in a way (not denying that the faces add to the character/personality of course), so I wish you all the very best of luck on that as I have with your other projects that you've shown off in the past.

Just had a look at the price of the Baldwin kit on Slater's website and it's a good job you're not thinking of getting it ready-to-run...'cause let's just say you could get yourself a fairly tidy second-hand car for the price of that; £720 doesn't seem too bad in comparison, but isn't great in comparison to the Prince kit you will have used (idk though since you could have got it elsewhere for all I know) for Duke.

SleeperAgent1 In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2018-03-17 21:01:25 +0000 UTC]

I'd need to refresh again before purchasing anything but I was going though the TTTE list, the Ffestipedia and my books about a month ago trying to decide what would be best but it gave me a bit of a headache. Given the high number mentioned though even if you go with there being 8 Corris types as well as the awkward Millicent and Gertrude that still gives a lot to fill in so there's no need to be particularly fussy on which prototypes to exclude.
Cora I need to do as well for the MSR, planning to give her a ducket as that is what the Corris counterpart was originally built with and there's also the FR's earlier brake vans and the quarryman coaches (nothing mentioned in IoS about them but they would be needed). The rather unique Aberllefenni slab wagon comes from the Corris but I like them so might get another 2 or 3 and I also need to decide on which slate wagons to go with.

Umm the England and Lowca engine kits come with the door already present on the smokebox so it's a little tricky to add faces. I did actually order two spare smokeboxes with my PDF kits so I could play swapies after filing away the spare set but the additional request was forgotten about it seems. Anywho I think i'm happy enough to run them faceless, especially as they'll be seen outdoors

Oh I hadn't seen that ready to run price! I managed to save 10% on a second Talyllyn kit the other week and also saved about £45 on the Duke kit which was being sold from America of all places so i'll keep my eye out for any surplus Baldwins There is an Atlas kit in 7/8th scale along with Millie's proper basis so hopefully they're be available one day in 16mm also.

Yeah, it's a good point since each coach look very identical to their classmates so it wouldn't really matter which ones you used given the slight ambiguity over the coaches as per the illustrations. Ooh, nice, I quite like the idea of a quarry workman truck for the MSR (yeah, it's logical, but I still like the idea).
I honestly don't mind if they're faceless or not, it is entirely up to you and I think it's rather refreshing, as I said, to see faceless versions of the characters like on Awdry's layouts; my only concern with you running them outside is whether or not you'll have enough space to run them out there if your garden's not that big, though you might still be able to fit it in even if it is small. But I digress.

With any luck, you might be able to nab yourself a decent price on a Baldwin kit possibly on Ebay if any pop up.

The Dinorwic Royal Coach, the Ffestiniog 'Curly Roof' and the Aberllefenni slab wagon are from kits produced by The Line Side Hut.

The Prince kit is by Slater's.
