The leaves in the trees rustled from the gust of wind that flew through the air in the forest. It was a cool day out, cool enough to send chills throughout the body once in a while. Our story begins with a bandit searching for a victim to steal from. He lived in a camp a few miles away, but had trouble finding anyone nearby so he had to branch out.

Finally, luck was on his side, or so he thought. He spotted a boy walking alone in the woods, what an easy target! He quickly hid in the bushes nearby the path before he was spotted, and waited to pounce on his prey. The boy was oblivious to his surroundings; he looked up causing his long brown hair to fall back, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, inhaling fresh, pure air. He was unaware of what was to come.

The bandit waited patiently for just the right time, and when it came he struck. He leaped out of the bush with his knife in his hand and pointed it at the boy’s throat.
“Your money or your life, kid!”
“Well, I would give you money, but I’m afraid I don’t have any.”
“Well then…” said the bandit with a smirk, “I guess it’s your life then!”
He instantly lunged at the boy, who jumped back, but was slashed in the arm. The boy cried out in pain, so the bandit ran forward to finish off his kill. The boy managed to muster the strength to deliver a power kick, knocking the bandit back. The boy turned around and started running away.
Hot in pursuit, the bandit knew he was in too deep to let this one get away, so he hunted the boy down relentlessly. He was always less than fifty feet away, but they were maintaining an even pace.
“Why?! Why are you doing this?” cried out the boy as he was running.
“You lie! You play me like a fool! You have money, and you think you can keep it from me! I’ll make sure you pay for your insolence with your life and your money that you value over your life!”
“I’m not lying, I don’t have any money, never needed it! Please, go away, before it’s too late!”
The bandit laughed, “Ha! You threatening me?! I was going to deliver a swift death, but now I’m going to make you suffer!”
The chase continued, and the boy wore a slight smirk on his lips that the bandit didn’t see. He ran towards a thick patch of brush and trees that was impossible to see through. The bandit ruthlessly followed through, not caring about what lied on the other side. However, that sentiment was soon to change quickly.
The bandit froze in pure terror. He was facing not only the wounded boy who was holding his arm in pain, but also a large green dragon whose scales matched the environment. Its tail was around the boy in a protective curl as well as a wing over top of him. The dragon made it all too clear to the bandit that he chose the wrong victim.
The dragon growled, and to the bandit’s surprise, spoke, “I think I’m the one that will be making you suffer.”
The bandit was so consumed by fear that he was paralyzed. He couldn’t respond nor flee. He fell to his knees and trembled as the dragon slowly approached him. It was at this moment that he realized the severity of the mistake he made.
