Cheers my dear, appreciated

It is all the different colours and reflections off the mud flats I like along with the very low angle.

Yes, I agree completely . I don't see many shots with low angles, and it makes this one different ^.^.

WOW, this is an awesome shot. I like the angle, and the way all the clouds seem to lead to the bright sunset in the background. Very nice!

SnapperRod In reply to artisticatedivy [2009-07-24 13:23:13 +0000 UTC]

thanks for your comments. I deliberately kept the angle low and tilted the camera down towards the rocks to keep bright areas of the sky out the picture. I was hand held as well and somebody pointed out the shutter speed via comments, so I lucky to get a crisp image.

artisticatedivy In reply to SnapperRod [2009-07-24 13:26:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it was very nicely planned, and the shutterspeed must have been perfect! Very nice!!!

wow, beautifully captured! Tack sharp and the lighting is just amazing! Did you use a tripod for this one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SnapperRod In reply to Kaddieee [2009-07-24 09:29:41 +0000 UTC]

No, it was hand held, and I have just looked at the shutter speed recorded on the image. I did pop the ISO speed up 2 notches because of the light but I am amazed myself with the sharpness at that speed.

Kaddieee In reply to SnapperRod [2009-07-24 09:35:57 +0000 UTC]

yes, absolutely! The high ISO doesn't show either, amazing! You must have a hell of a steady hand Do you use a lens with image stabilization?

SnapperRod In reply to Kaddieee [2009-07-24 09:57:59 +0000 UTC]

I was more or less laying on the ground for that shot with camera firmly held with both hands tightly up against the face. No, my Sigma 10-20mm does not have IS. The lens I did have with IS, Canon 28-138mm, I lost a few weeks ago, along with some other kit, after a trip down a hillside. I am just waiting for the insurance company to finalize before getting replacement equipment.

Kaddieee In reply to SnapperRod [2009-07-24 12:46:13 +0000 UTC]

oh no, that sucks... I'm glad you have insurance, though. I'm thinking about getting insurance for my equipment as well. Maybe I should do that...
Ah, the Sigma 10-20mm, that's on my Christmas / birthday-wishlist Are you happy with it? Most people seem to love theirs to pieces. Nikon just came out with a 10mm zoom, but that's 300 Euros more, which is a lot of money...

SnapperRod In reply to Kaddieee [2009-07-24 13:11:29 +0000 UTC]

All my photographic equipment is covered under my house contents insurance, so if you that that type of insurance check your policy document. No point in paying twice.

I like the lens a great deal and have no serious problems with it at all. You get the odd bit of curvature on building edges when at the extreme angles, but that is to be expected. I never buy brand new lens that have just been introduced. I tend to go for established lenses, read all the reviews I can before I buy, and so far I have been very lucky. It is nice to stay with the dedicated model lenses, but the extra cost can be extortionate, and after a couple of purchases you could have brought another lens from a different maker.

great tip about the insurance, I have to check with them about that, thanks!
Thanks about your feedback on the Sigma. You're right about the costs, that can be pretty crazy...

You sit and you wait, and you wait and snap away, and wait and snap away. I took 55 images tonight and I have 2 that I think are acceptable. This is one, about to post the other, but it's not as good as this one. Then apply a touch of contrast/saturation - selectively - just to bring out the hightlights.
