Description
A chance capture. Driving by in the car and saw the poppies and the gathering clouds and saw possibilities. Stopped and took a dozen or so shots and drove off again. Quick tweek in PS to darken the sky and increase the contrast on the poppies.Shot location: [link]

I absolutely love how the red flowers contrast yet compliment the darkness of the surroundings and how there's no single item with to much focus that every detail is clear and precise.

Don't see many intense displays around that much, normally just the odd bunch here and there.
But I was lucky with this lot and I hope they reappear again this year.
Cheers for that Margaret, and the fav as well

patience, my friend - it will happen
here in texas, two months will bring us a heat that is overwhelming and that lasts for a full 7 months ... even the nights are suffocating ... i'd LOVE to see 6 inches of snow
human nature, i suppose, that we all want what we don't have

SnapperRod In reply to nummerni [2010-01-26 10:43:09 +0000 UTC]
Yep, that is very true and the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, it's getting over the fence is the trouble
As you say human nature, never happy with what we got - always want something different.
Can't supply any snow, ours has gone, but as soon as it returns I will give you a call. Me deliver or you collect?

i'd much rather collect .... spent 4 years in germany, and one other trip to europe (holland/denmark), but have never been to the uk; still need to make it there.

I've been to Dunfermline few weeks ago. I'd never expect that this s**thole has so beautiful neighbourhood. Very well done.
And I had similiar situation once, but with sunflowers.
Kind regards.

Have to agree, Dunfermline is a bit of a dump, but the countryside surrounding the area is brilliant and you will be surprised at what it can produce photographically.

Another beauty, and truly appreciated by a snowbound Canuck.
Things can get dreary in winter, and this shot of colour is JUST what the doctor ordered.
I think I'll go look in my vault and see if I, too, can find a flower shot or two to post...you've inspired me.

Well that is my aim achieved for today, I inspired someone to do something
Cheers Craig appreciated. Dreary in winter with all those frozen trees, icicles and what no. Chilly by all means but not dreary

Today is...foggy and wet, above zero.
All the filthy snow at the side of the roads...
I shoot around the ugly.
I prefer taking pics of flowers than ice...more variety in colour.
I get tired of blue and white, with the occasional golden sunset or sunrise.
It's part of the reason I started playing with food colouring, to get some colour in my winter shots.

I understand what you are saying and it is probably because we don't get prelonged periods of snow like you do. We had three weeks of snow this year and it nearly brought the country to a stand still , however, photography wise I loved it because it was a rare opportunity. I lived in Canada for a couple of years, in Nova Scotia, and you could more or less guarantee when your seasons start and stop and going out and about in winter was a real pain, that's for sure.

Nova Scotia gets it worse than where I am. Proximity to the sea, more likely to get tail ends of hurricanes.
My Uncle Jack lived there when he was in the navy.
When my Dad told him he was moving to Canada, Uncle Jack thought he was MAD.
He didn't realize that Canada has differing weather, depending on where you are.
There's even a desert, it's in the praries.
I grew up in a suburb that's now been swallowed up by Toronto, and we didn't have as much snow as where I live now. I'm farther north, but still relatively close to the border...MOST Canadians live in a strip of land just north of America.
It's funny, there's a town called Barrie, that's on the other side of Lake Simcoe.
I heard a Keswickian once say "In Keswick we get snow, but BARRIE gets SNOW".
I watch a girl in Alaska I could use the above line when talking about her circumstances compared to mine.
I get a lot of people who romantisize living in snowbound places.
She gets me, because she's in the same boat.
She told me that she LOVES to see daisies, because it's a sign that the snow is FINALLY over.
That's WAY more cold than I get.
On the plus side, summer is good here, lots of sun and warmth, but not as hot and humid as Toronto.
My friends in Britain are envious of our summer weather, and I can totally understand that.
Too much gray gives me S.A.D.
