This is true! When working on lighter colored horses I generally do more shadow work than enhancing the lighting work, it works both ways. Just depends on what you have to work with.
Glad you got some use out of it though.

I'm sorry to hear that? Perhaps send me a note and show me what is happening, or perhaps explain it. I'll try and help you along.

This is only a guideline. You'll have to tinker and alter things to suite your needs to get the effect you're after.

ohh bootyful i love it <3 oh gosh, i was taught to use the dodge tool for highlight lines, and smudge them all on the horses layer! yeah, your way is so much better >.<
oh, i feel stupid for asking, but im very very new to playing up the lights and shadows on horses and i though mybe you can draw red for where the highlights are and blue for the shadows, just to get a more of a look at where everything is maybe?

I'll definitely think about doing it for another lighting tutorial. Basically what you do is look at where the coat sheens on the image already and think of the muscling pattern.

Thanks, this will be a big help to me. Sometimes when I am trying to change the color or something, I end up losing shading and the horse ends up looking .. well not like a horse I have seen before lol

awesome work on that horse, love it. i do this sometimes too. but the finer highlights trouble me, eh.

snofoxx89 In reply to venomxbaby [2011-02-22 16:48:03 +0000 UTC]
i agree, they can be really troublesom. most times i'll do most of the highlighting and if i get frustraited because it's not turning out as i planned i'll go clean the house or watch some tv and come back to it with a clearer mind. sometimes that helps me.
