Description
I don't know why I called the first test of this the "third" public test - this is really the second one. Anyway...Town hasn't changed a whole lot from the first sample, but the castle has been remade from pieces and there's new terrain. The cool thing about these custom ground planes is that there are . . . 9 x 9 x 4 . . . I don't even remember how many smaller tiling planes there are here, but I can texture every one individually. I won't of course, but it lets me change a few to make roads (the dark guides) or water (the blue ones) rather than use the same tiling texture over the entire landscape. The ground may look tiling from this distance, but it looks pretty good close up and I will customize the textures so they don't repeat when it's time to render a closeup scene. Special thanks to Lyrra for these props.
Of course I'm open to any and all suggestions on what you think would make the city look better, so please feel free to comment and let me know! Thanks as always.

Did you find out a lot of information, like, the average height of walls, how much towers rose above the walls, and the distance between towers, before you started planing? Or did you just go, ya that looks right?
I spent two days searching for the distance between towers. I think I've got the answer, but I am not sure.

No, I didn't do any research into any of that for this project, it was just for fun to try and actually use all these castle parts and put something together. It would be for fantasy renders anyway, so I'm not terribly concerned with being realistic.

Good start I think. Maybe double the "houses"? As in increase their number, reduce their size a little more and give them a slightly bigger area? So you can create a nice nest of houses to get lost in Cities would have an elite wealthy section and a slum section [idea?] Slum sections were always around the seedy docks in all the books I've read
And your elite wealthy closer to the castle. So bigger manor homes near the castle and smaller dwellings near the docks. Trees close to the city would probably be gone as DBE mentioned and would have been used in construction and/or fuel. Maybe some groves on the other side of the water? Give the enemy a little cover while spying on the city
Have you seen this castle creator kit for turrets and stuff? [link] Where did you get your stuff for this, I think the houses are Faverals? I don't recognize the walls and turrets. Is it the Castle Royal from DAZ?

Thanks for taking a look. I have made some changes since this version, mostly adding the dock to where it says "Put Dock Here?", adding staircases to access the walls, and opening up a little more room for houses (and I will add more as you suggest). I'm kind of limited to the types of buildings I have, but maybe I can stick two of them together to make larger, more "rich" looking homes near the castle.
There are fairies in this world that live in trees, so if I have any trees outside the castle, they'll probably be fairy trees (which would explain why they aren't cut down). Going to work on the marketplace and adding more buildings next, landscaping can still wait a bit.
Haven't actually seen that set you linked too, I will bookmark it and wait for a Renderosity sale that's more than 15%. The houses are from Faveral's Medieval City at DAZ, most of the rest is from the Castle Creator set from DAZ too.
Thanks again!

I agree with Neil! Looking great so far hon. I would say if you put trees in the places you've got marked as such, I would make sure they stay away from the immediate walls. Don't want to give any enemies any kind of cover to breach the walls.

Thanks very much, yes I will reconsider the trees. There are fairies in this kingdom though and they don't like anyone messing with their trees...those kind of trees would likely be left alone. Already made a lot of changes since posting this and I always appreciate your thoughts!

I think a nice lil apple orchard would be quite handy somewhere in there too

Haha, yeah that sounds nice too. We can always think of so much more than we can make, lol.
