Description edit : this tutorial has now been redone! Hopefully you will find this more helpful now!

And look at how far we've come.
A redo of my original adoptable tutorial, now hopefully a little clearer and prettier LOL

I want to thank all of my watchers, the ones from the very beginning to my very newest. Your support means the world to me.

I want to thank my friends, for encouraging me and helping me out, and I want to thank my inspirations, for helping me to keep on designing.

Most of all, I want to thank two people who fit all three categories.

DBT until the end of time β™₯
If it weren't for you guys, I would never have started making adoptables. And if it weren't for adoptables, I would never have met you. I'm so happy that both of those things ended up happening.

Anyway, on a less personal note :

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm not a great designer, artist or business person but I HAVE been a part of the adopt community and have sold adopts for a long time.

That's all for now, folks β˜…

p.s i suggest you check out is this guide to stolen adoptables in order to avoid being scammed :

in regards to etiquette; a person has asked for 19 adopts in one turn and has said they will send the points, 48 hours later they have not sent them and claimed they are 'not at my computer at the moment'. what is the protocol for this situation?

Hello. This might be a dumb question but I really just want to know. In creating an adopt should I make a character sheet with front, side, back view or only one view is okay?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Funny-arts In reply to xephirahart [2018-02-02 17:59:46 +0000 UTC]

Hello! Due to the fact that the creator of this journal is no more active, I`ll try to answer your question
One side view isΒ enough as long as the character`s pose is not too complicated and does not hide any details. So,Β in my opinion,Β the best poses for animals are side view and for humanoids - front view.
Hope it was at least a little bit helpful ^^

hi, so, your tutorial really helped me out a lot, but i still don't get one thing; is it okay to make a traditional adopt? i mean, all the adopts I've seen are digitally made, would it be okay to make a traditional one? and from what I've picked on, adopt are meant to be original, but then again it mustn't contain too much detail, is that right?Β

i'm sorry i'm new to this so i have a lot of questionsΒ  Β

Etyzaya In reply to Aefis [2017-08-14 22:20:17 +0000 UTC]

Yep! It's fine... Just as long as the image is clear enough/understandable design I guess?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

jelellie In reply to Aefis [2017-07-29 21:16:49 +0000 UTC]

It's fine to make traditional adopts! They probably won't get as much attention, though. Also, you'd need to make sure the photo is really good and that there's proper lighting/angling, so people know what they're getting, and that a light blue doesn't look like a navy blue.

How van yoy send art to whom ever pur hased your adopt? I usualy have a watwrmark over the art so i dont know how to send it to them... Help?

Also, is there a way to advertise adopt/get more watchers/ get my art viewed more? My adopts are just sitting together in a box, alone together... Just stitting there...

And, how can you move an existing adopt to a different folder.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

kozydraws In reply to Minamoart [2017-03-21 02:16:23 +0000 UTC]

Old comment, but:

Keep a PSD (or other format that keeps your layers intact) alongside whichever file type you choose to upload. When someone purchases your adopt, simply open the PSD and remove the watermark. Upload it to a website like pomf or imgur, or you can also upload it to your stash. Send them a link to that and boom, they have an unwatermarked version of it.

Someone already covered groups.

Not sure about folders, I thought there used to be a drop-down in the corner of your image where you can select to move it out of featured and into a folder somewhere but it's not there. I suppose you could edit it into your scraps?

It's a good idea to draw your signature over the drawings, not on the sides,INSIDE the adoptables(Keep a copΓ½ of the image without the signature inside if you want)

Do you happen to know how to safely set up a Paypal account for adopts? Is there anything that I need to be aware of? (I've read a bunch of tutorials so far, but they mainly target buyers instead of sellers, so I just want to be certain.)

Sorry if I'm bothering but I'm really new selling adoptables and I have some questions:
1-I need to do something to gets the points when I sell an adoptable? like activating something on my profile or something?
2-Is okay if I put different kinds of adoptables together? for example: putting normal humans, dogs, cats and anthros in the same page.
3-Can anyone tell me how much points I can ask using this coloring styleΒ sta.sh/02akhzqpzto

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarcasmicc In reply to SosAdopts [2016-03-18 04:29:20 +0000 UTC]

(I have yet to start adoptables, but I hope my opinion will help!)
1- There's a widget you can add onto your profile (the donation pool) so people can send in points. There's a lot of tutorials on how to do it, if you don't know.Β
2- I recommend putting one species with it's species. If you want to make a cat adoptable and a dog adoptable, put them on two separate pages.Β
3- You can ask for a good bit! If you used a base, maybe 25-30 ... if you made your own base, possibly 50? I personally think 40 is really fair for that, but I don't know exactly how much work went into it.

Good luck!

This is a amazing tutorial but I do NOT think that the -draw to adopt- rule is ridiculous.
Personally I actually think that it's really annoying when someone adopt a creature and never use it, I mean, most of us who make adopts put alot of time creating it and I suppose that you do that to.
But this is just my opinion though.
I recently started this account as a adopt account so you won't see much if you visit my gallery to give me a "punch-reply"(yes I use that term, and I think that no one else uses it)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ariieve In reply to DenyaX [2016-03-01 11:45:17 +0000 UTC]

The ridiculous part of it thigh is that the person paid for the design. If you buy something, you should own it fully, without the creator threatening to reclaim. Those sorts of rules turn off a lot of buyers

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DenyaX In reply to ariieve [2016-03-04 13:57:28 +0000 UTC]

True.
I don't really threaten to take it back (but I've seen those that do) but I do have it as an "ish-rule"
I've always enjoyed watching others deviations that are based of my artwork or adopts that they bought from me.
But, this is just my opinion.

If you click on someone's username it will take you to their page p. On the top right hand corner there should be a box that says "give" you click on that and it will give you an option of points, llama, or cake badge. You then type in the amount of points and send them.
Alternatively you can donate inΒ donation box (if they have one on their page) in a similar way. To get points they have to give themΒ

oh my gosh this has helped me so much!! Thanks a ton!! I have been recently considering starting to make adopts, so thi was a lsaver, since I knew NOTHING X'DD

Anyway, I just haveΒ a question, and sorry if you already answered this! ; - ;
So let's just say I'm selling adopts and someone purchases one. What do they get? Do I send them a link to a sta.sh file, or do I send them a digital copy of their adopt? Should I watermark it? Or do they just get the rights to use the design, but I don't actually send them anything? Or maybe it depends on the artist?

anyhoo thanks again for creating this, it's super helpful

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XxBuckxX In reply to XxAnimeCharliexX [2015-09-23 14:36:44 +0000 UTC]

If i was you i would just put down a signature at the bottom. So they can see the design clearly and no what colors to use ect. You sould water mark the one that everyone sees. Like if you bought an adoptable from me i would send yu the original with out the water mark but with the artist signature.Β
