Description
edit : this tutorial has now been redone! Hopefully you will find this more helpful now!And look at how far we've come.
A redo of my original adoptable tutorial, now hopefully a little clearer and prettier LOL
I want to thank all of my watchers, the ones from the very beginning to my very newest. Your support means the world to me.
I want to thank my friends, for encouraging me and helping me out, and I want to thank my inspirations, for helping me to keep on designing.
Most of all, I want to thank two people who fit all three categories.

DBT until the end of time ♥
If it weren't for you guys, I would never have started making adoptables. And if it weren't for adoptables, I would never have met you. I'm so happy that both of those things ended up happening.
Anyway, on a less personal note :
If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm not a great designer, artist or business person but I HAVE been a part of the adopt community and have sold adopts for a long time.
That's all for now, folks ★
p.s i suggest you check out is this guide to stolen adoptables in order to avoid being scammed :

[link] I was wondering if the pricing for this adoptable is alright? since I've never made adopts before and I'm not sure if it's an okay price. Do auctions even work if nobody knows you? haha.
Thankyou ;n;

Everything else was really helpful!

Question teacher!
I don't get how the money part works. Do people donate to you and that would be the transaction or what?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
sockjuice In reply to Alistalesti [2012-07-28 21:10:21 +0000 UTC]
Ohh, you need a paypal, then you just give the person buying the adoptable your email (the one you used to create your paypal account) and (assuming they also have a paypal and know how it works)they just send you the money, and then the adoptable is theirs eue
for points they just donate to you, and then you mark the adoptable down as theirs.

Alistalesti In reply to sockjuice [2012-07-28 22:15:36 +0000 UTC]
ohh, sounds complicated with the paypal thing. I wonder if some artist just stick to the donation method.

As an adopt buyer, omg yes all of this. Everyone who ever tries to sell adopts should read this.
The only things I'd add are (though I guess these are kind of suggestions for the adoptable etiquette one):
1. Don't be a dick to people who want to pay you actual real life money. I once saw an adoptable I loved from someone, like I had epic character/story ideas immediately kind of thing. I didn't have points or enough money to buy points, and I'd rather support artists instead of dA. They refused to accept money not because they don't have a Paypal or whatever, but so "people who enjoy the characters have a chance to get them". I was pretty offended because obviously I enjoy them if I'm willing to give you real money, but if trying to give you a few real dollars instead of worthless points is that horrible, well, fuck you too. Needless to say I no longer so much as look at their adopts and if people ask about them I don't give a good review.
2. Don't tell people they're not allowed to post the image on other sites. I've seen people flat out say that their adopts are NEVER allowed to be posted ANYWHERE else by the person who bought them even with credit/linking back/signatures not removed, and they've mostly been nice adopts that cost like 100+ points and are worth it. I guess that's not a huge deal for people who can redraw them, but I'm a writer and have to commission art of my characters. That's not actually possible if, for example, I wish to commission art of them on a site that doesn't allow offsite linking or linking to dA or something on that deviation would make it against the rules to link to. Or, you know, the artist takes down the deviation/puts it in "storage" out of nowhere which seems to happen a lot to adopts. :/
3. Don't put ridiculous rules. I can't count how many times I've passed up on adoptables because they've got rules like "if you don't draw it every week forever and put it on dA I will resell it", "if you don't have a full bio, backstory, and reference sheet in a week and draw a minimum of one extra drawing every three months I will resell it", etc. Basically anything that says "if you don't do this stupid requirement I will resell this character out from under you!". Not everyone that buys adopts can draw period or create on a stupid schedule for you.
Also stupid rules like "never ever make kids for this character EVER" drive me nuts. For personal species I understand and respect it, but like some generic wolf or a human or something? Hell no that's not okay.
