Description edit : this tutorial has now been redone! Hopefully you will find this more helpful now!

And look at how far we've come.
A redo of my original adoptable tutorial, now hopefully a little clearer and prettier LOL

I want to thank all of my watchers, the ones from the very beginning to my very newest. Your support means the world to me.

I want to thank my friends, for encouraging me and helping me out, and I want to thank my inspirations, for helping me to keep on designing.

Most of all, I want to thank two people who fit all three categories.
=LinoleumItalics | *Burscutum

DBT until the end of time ♥
If it weren't for you guys, I would never have started making adoptables. And if it weren't for adoptables, I would never have met you. I'm so happy that both of those things ended up happening.

Anyway, on a less personal note :

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm not a great designer, artist or business person but I HAVE been a part of the adopt community and have sold adopts for a long time.

That's all for now, folks ★

p.s i suggest you check out is this guide to stolen adoptables in order to avoid being scammed :

wow! now I know what adoptables are XD thank you very much!

I want to sell adoptables too, but I have one question: If anyone has bought it, should I send him/her the pic with or without he watermark? (or even a new picture?)

and can someone give me an advice which are suitable selling prices?

This was a good read. I've been needing a bit of help since my adopts don't sell very well.
The question for me is; is it better to have a separate, adoptable account for adopts? Would they have a better chance of selling on an account focused solely on adopts and adopt customs versus a main account where all the artist's art goes?

Ilda28399 In reply to ??? [2013-05-08 06:48:02 +0000 UTC]

actually i finjd fair the rule of taking it back if you dont use it, most of all in the DARPG community, who's adoptables MUST be used for sure.
plus.. well. why do you buy if you dont use it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sockjuice In reply to Ilda28399 [2013-05-08 10:00:05 +0000 UTC]

I think it's unfair because if you pay for something, it shouldn't really be the creator's business what you do with it after ^^ ;;
For example, if you buy a loaf of bread, whether or not you eat it or throw it away is not the baker's business, if they took it back just because you didn't eat it, even though you'd paid, that'd be ridiculous, right? xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ilda28399 In reply to sockjuice [2013-05-08 10:10:19 +0000 UTC]

yeah, that would, but you make an adopt to make people USE it and it's unfair to take it and give him dust .-. i found unfair also the fact you odnt eat the bread if you buy it so xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sockjuice In reply to Ilda28399 [2013-05-08 10:13:05 +0000 UTC]

I think it's different for everyone ^^ I don't mind if people don't use adopts they buy from me, but I can see that people wouldn't like it with the adopts they make.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ilda28399 In reply to sockjuice [2013-05-08 10:14:43 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i am one of those people xD for exemple, i am in the darpg since a little. in it, you adopt dogs, you make them role play and such so you buy a pup to make him join competitions like it is a real dog and such, and since i want a dog and cant have it it hurts me to see dogs unused even if they are not real xD

sockjuice In reply to Ilda28399 [2013-05-08 10:16:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I haven't heard of things like that : O It sounds interesting ^^ So, it's like really buying a character/pet, instead of a design?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ilda28399 In reply to sockjuice [2013-05-08 10:19:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah :3 well, you buy a pup from a litter or an import. they have a specific breed most of time you can't change and it must respect the breed standards. it's all natural color and some are damn cute and stuff i find them much more interesting comparated to osme shiny ones. You can get friends asking forr breeding, there are contests with the different types of competitions for dogs and such so yeah, you buy a pet and you role-play ni the groups doing these things ^_^

That sounds really cool! I'm not really a dog person but I can see how people would have fun with that, I've never thought of adoptables that way xD

(sorry for late reply)
Those are great! Really original designs *v* I think an issue may be that historical designs aren't typically that popular.
The price is good!

ahhh I'm really not sure what else to critique apart from that, perhaps try submitting to more groups?

May try that. >.<; Since none have been adopted yet, I was considering adding a few details to the costumes... more distinct lacing or patterns or something. TT_TT;; I'll do something more updated next time, but I was dying to draw bustles and such. >.<; Need to learn how to do lolita and steampunk...

Thank you so much for your opinion. Beyond appreciated.

Just wondering, do you need some sort of contract/agreement? ANd what happens after they buy it? Do you send them anything? Also, thank you for making this ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sockjuice In reply to slytherin-is-hot [2012-11-24 04:05:51 +0000 UTC]

nope, you don't!
If you watermark your adoptables (which you should) you can send them the unwatermarked version of the adoptable, other than that, no, you don't need to send them anything!
no problem!

I must thank you... I never really had any idea how I should sell adopts, so I target my PoV of what people would like... I do simple, cute adopts and I always know people will at least look at them because they're unique ^.^
But the thing is, I do Trad because I don't have a tablet/pen and that pretty much kills the price because even then, I never got any real experience in any type of art
And I can only do chibi lol
And I have a Mac so stuff like SAI don't work ;-;

Do you think you can suggest a few things to me? If you don't mind? x3
