Description
edit : this tutorial has now been redone! Hopefully you will find this more helpful now!And look at how far we've come.
A redo of my original adoptable tutorial, now hopefully a little clearer and prettier LOL
I want to thank all of my watchers, the ones from the very beginning to my very newest. Your support means the world to me.
I want to thank my friends, for encouraging me and helping me out, and I want to thank my inspirations, for helping me to keep on designing.
Most of all, I want to thank two people who fit all three categories.

DBT until the end of time ♥
If it weren't for you guys, I would never have started making adoptables. And if it weren't for adoptables, I would never have met you. I'm so happy that both of those things ended up happening.
Anyway, on a less personal note :
If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm not a great designer, artist or business person but I HAVE been a part of the adopt community and have sold adopts for a long time.
That's all for now, folks ★
p.s i suggest you check out is this guide to stolen adoptables in order to avoid being scammed :

dunno, maybe because they want OTHER people to get the chance to buy their adoptables ;A;
So I think they're thinking like this. Let's say A buy 3 out of 7 adoptables.
The seller wants the other 7 people to buy /experience buying it from her, not just 4 people

Well yeah that makes sensei.
I feel sad sometimes when my adopts are bought by people that dont even draw them, and mostly my best designs, i think there's a "obsesive compulsive buying disorder" or something like that.
I know that adopts are adictive; but if they put that rule for every sheet they upload they'll lose all their customers progresively o__O

This is really useful and well organized. I especially liked the suggestion to hold auctions to see how much your art is worth though that depends a lot of the subject too... A female kemonomimi in lolita!style is going to be more sought after than a male anthro shark in metal!style and the auction will go higher even if the quality is lower.
Looking forward to the Etiquette one.
(And totally not going to steal the idea to add it to my own Adoptables Lessons. )
One of the *Don'ts* should be 'don't end every comment with "Want to buy?"'. I get that a lot when I comment on adoptables... Just because I think it's good, it doesn't mean I want to buy it. If I want to spend my points/money on it, I'll be the one to tell you.

This should help a lot of adoptable noobs! Needs to be submitted to more groups though.

unfortunately I don't think that many groups have a 'tutorial' section.

Well, you can always ask the admins to advertise your tutorial or at least fave it so more people can see it.

1. Join a group.
2. Go to group gallery.
3. Go to correct folder.
4. Click little plus sigh on the right hand side of the folder bar.
5. Click your adoptable deviation, then submit.
Alternatively;
Go to adoptable deviation.
Click 'Submit to a Group' on right hand side.
Find a group (search the name)
Click 'Submit'.

Thanks so much!! I don't quite have the skill level to make an adoptable base just yet (I know that sounds stupid, considering I do actually draw, but whenever I try to make a base I feel like it's a failure) so I suppose I'll be using one of the ones offered here on dA :3 This really helped me, thank you again!!

Hmm, this is very helpful, and I'm not here to judge, but I don't understand one part...
Shouldn't you start out with a style that you like drawing, rather than one that's just 'popular'?
Even if it's for profit, I wouldn't want to spend my time drawing things in a style I dislike.
Of course, if the customer is paying, that's fine, but they should base what they buy by what I previously created.
If I drew things like the example 'lizard-boys with weapons', then it's obvious that my style isn't whatever else they're looking for.
I think that people who are trying to sell what they create should do it for themselves rather than for the goal of a bigger audience.
But that's just my opinion. I'm sure many people find this helpful, as well as I do. Thank you.

sockjuice In reply to Estherella [2012-06-08 11:13:49 +0000 UTC]
I agree, but for me most of my sets are 90% profit (and this tutorial is based on how I do adoptables, haha) so I always draw what sells best, not what I like. : ) I like designing monster girls (ie cyclops, spider girls, naga etc) and military outfits, but that's not too popular so I mostly end up doing scene/emo/hipster or cutesy kemonomimi haha
But I think your opinion is good and that not everyone should just do/feel the same way about adoptables as I do x)

Estherella In reply to sockjuice [2012-06-08 17:26:34 +0000 UTC]
Hey, what you like to draw could also be popular!
It sounds cool, and very different than what people usually make.
Creative, new designs stand out a lot more.
Maybe you should try both! c:

I always felt as if the adoptable depended more on how well the clothes/over all design was, and less on how good the line art was |DD ((though I try and make decent lineart :I))
But this is a very good tutorial! 8D I never thought of going to fashion blogs~ o u o

One question...
What if I use Paint and a laptop? Or in other words: what my lines aren't lines?
lol XD
I just spam the primary brush tool on Windows 7's Paint onto a really REALLY large canvas and then re-size it.
Makes crap lines look like cool lines. Like magic... Only BETTER!
Although I love that the Windows 7 version of paint smooths the edges of brush strokes now. Goddamn, Windows XP was annoying.

I say try to fix your lineart a bit. Perhaps make it a solid black and thicker..? Definitely thicker if anything. They're really cute and I'd buy one if I were more into MLP. But yeah, try using thicker lines! c: I think it'll make them look much better, but that's just my opinion, hehe.

I've claimed like, six to eight of my adopts i've drawn that I was originally gonna sell.

YUNTASTIC In reply to Sailor-of-Time [2012-06-07 19:47:45 +0000 UTC]
and in the end you don't even use them and hoard them
then you think yourself "wow im not gonna use them, i should put them up for adopt."
then stroke them gently and forget that statement
