Description Don't worry - I don't know what I'm doing either.

This is my very first tutorial!

I hope this tutorial gives you some tips and tricks and some tools you can use to create your very own shadow boxes. If you guys like this tutorial I'll be making another one with paper, cutting tips and tricks and how I assemble my shadow boxes.

Let me know what you think!

If something is unclear or if you have some other questions that I haven't covered in this tutorial don't hesitate to ask!

Hi,

This is simply mystical. Is it OK to download the Hidden Forest image and use it for another DIY project as a hobby or is it copyrighted? Please advise !

This is a great tutorial!
I really like how it was put together. The writing is easy to understand and the pictures are clear in what they are trying to show. Most importantly, thank you for showing us your methods! Much appreciated!

Keep up the good work!

I'm really glad to hear that! It's not easy putting something like this together - especially when you haven't tried it before   So I'm really happy for your positive feedback!

Thank you - you too!

You're more than welcome!
There is an art in writing tutorials. In fact, there are tutorials on how to make tutorials. But I don't think you'll need them. You seem to be doing just fine! I hope folks will find your tutorial helpful, too. I'd love to see more paper artists on DA!

Haha - really? Of course there are tutorials on writing tutorials I just never thought about it
Thank you so much once again! I hope some will find the tutorial useful as well

There is a tutorial for everything out there!
So of course there are tutorials on writing tutorials. It's just something that doesn't come to people's mind right away, that's all.

Here's to hoping you can help more people become paper artists!

Thanks for doing this Its funny to see that you do exactly the same as I do with my 3D pictures. Its realy the best way to build these. The only thing I do first is to draw my complete picture taditional and build my layers in Photoshop over it, because I have no tablet. So this would be a alternative for the no tablet guys :3

I hope you enjoyed it!
That's a really good way to do it if you don't have a tablet - thank you for sharing that. Do you use the magic wand or something to mark the areas you've hand drawn or do you trace it using your touchpad/mouse?

theIceOrchid In reply to sofierimmer [2017-04-08 08:58:52 +0000 UTC]

I use most of the time the Polygonal Lasso Tool to mark the areas. Its most of the time better than the magic wand because the lines of the pictures aren´t closed most of the time. With the Lasso you only need a sketch and not a high worked out picture. :3

If you guys like this tutorial I'll be doing another one explaining the next steps of the shadow box including how I install lights. It's a step that needs some explaining I think.
However for the lighting I use LED-lights that I stick on the back piece of the shadow box frame
