So I was considering updating Red to a G3 base, because my G3 pose and wardrobe collection is starting to rival the G2 sets. It's probably got to happen someday, right? The G3 models are also (I think) easier to work with and potentially better-looking, especially in action poses. Sure, they are more resource-intensive too, but that's cool.So I did some reading and testing, until I realised I'd have to a) Drop $50 plus on add-ons or b) Be better with computers and tutorials. I've banned myself from new purchases at any store until June, so a) is out right now. And I got as far as creating a Red morph preset, but cannot get it to a G3 figure because I'm only so good at computers.
So then I lined up some of the G3 characters and plonked Red's messy hair onto 'em. I was thinking, damn, this looks pretty good, how easy is this? The I loaded Red herself next to them, so it looks like she's either judging or participating in a look-alike competition...and I decided that she's just fine for now.

I've had the same problem with some older G2 models too. Mostly though I did come to the same conclusion. The looks for these few characters are just too... them. If that makes sense.
Of them the two closest to Red there look the most like her. But Red is Red and it would be weird to see her look different .

True- and I didn't realise until I did this side-by-side comparison. A lot of the G3 presets are very bland, their main strength seems to be in limb articulation.

That's not all. You'll also need to take a long week of time-off with a scary 'do not disturb' sign on your door. I'm picturing a dog eared and tattered placard on a rusty chain hanging from an Dickens-esque rusty nail in your nice front door. One with an odd fon't and some 'what is that spattered across it?' You'll need at least that to get Red's exactingly formed and super stylized body style down just right in Gee-whatever. You won't just jump up to the hyper realism of Gee-eight? Gee Whiz!
None of those imposters in black are Red Dammit! I like the body style of Miss #3 best but - that's not Red either! Number 4's body is closest if you shorten her torso. I think you'll need a second pot of coffee when you start on her breasts. Don't stop 'till she's right. It does matter! Well, to me anyway. Haha!

I don't want to sound trite, but don't worry too much about the 50 bucks. Will it make you happy? This is our hobby! Finding satisfaction is pretty cheap at 50 clams eh?

Yes! You've delved to the heart of the matter Phreeep, as usual. Sadly, time is short and I will have to mothball this project for a bit and tell myself that in time, the answer will come to me.
G8 frightens me to be honest with its many polygons, so no, that will have to wait a long time indeed. Not that Red herself is easy on the system, even as a G2! Lotta subdivisions on that athletic, nubile frame.

I am working on that...but can't yet decide on hair, or the position Stephy clones might occupy in my universe...plus it's hard when there are so many Stephy interpretations- I especially like:
a) Soldier Stephy from the Julia Jones series
b) JGN's gunslinger (your ID of course)
c) Jollypops' super cutie (still hoping we get to see her in that under-the-bed series sometime!)
