Gorgeous! Two quick fixes:
DIP is not DIPP, and HD-15 is DE-15. I'm sooo pleased that you got DE-9 and 8p8c right, though noting the common misnomers for all of the above will doubtless help some folks.

If they'd be useful, I'd be happy to take and contribute high-res photos of the following connectors:

HPIB/GPIB
DB13W3
SCSI HD-50
SCSI HD-68 "internal" and "external" (with/without latches)
Mac square SCSI
VHDCI SCSI
Some other odd SCSI, HDCN50 and HPCN60 I think
MicroChannel slot and card
RAM used in Sun and HP PA-RISC machines, would need to do some learning myself to figure out what it's even called.
Processor card edges of various Pentium, Xeon, Athlon, and Alpha cards.

If you want to go more networky...
Token Ring genderless connector.
Various fiber connectors, I know I have SC and ST on hand.
GBIC and SFP
Infiniband

If you decide to branch out into storage media, I can supply pictures of every tape format from Pereos to 9-track, floppies from 2.5"(not a typo) to 8", Zip and Clik and Sparq and LS120 and maybe Jaz and Bernoulli and Orb. Might even have a PD-M650 cartridge hiding with my HD-DVDRW disc sample...

Crap. I think I need a new hobby. One with girls?

Thank you for the pointers, I know it was a "dual-inline package" but I always want to call it "Pin package" for some reason... I added DE-15 to the description, it seems the terms are (for right or wrong) used interchangeable. As for SCSI, they could have a poster of their own! I'd like to do more posters, any images you can contribute would be great.

Thank you!

Love it! If there will be more revisions, perhaps you can add Fibre Channel and SAS? They're not as common, but still useful for those of us in server environments.

Stay awesome.

This poster focused on ports, plugs, sockets, etc you'd find on consumer hardware. I went a little overboard by adding XDIM, SCSI, and the other RAMBUS. But for the most part that premise is still true, I'd love to do a purely server poster, in fact I started a fiber poster but there are so many custom connectors out there it's insane.

This is the #1 "missed Slot" folks have been telling me about. I'll work on adding it. does anyone have a hi-resolution image of the slot itself I could use?

Separate digital/analog and digital only DVI (digital only doesn't have four holes next to flat plug i.e. [link] ), pci universal smaller (to match up with PCI 5V)

I am aware of the various styles on DVI, most are plug specific, I'll see if I can find room for DVI-D. Thanks for the comment!

Interesting, someone pointed me to your photo based chart when commenting on my vector drawn version:

Perhaps we can collaborate at some point?

To be frank, I never really paid attention to the copyright details, I just don't want someone else taking credit for my stuff, as I imagine most content creators do. I noticed your Guide to CC, ([link] ) Very helpful! I have uploaded 1.7c of my poster and adjusted the license. I wish I had the time/skill to do vector, one of my co-workers is a master at Illustrator. Ironically the 3D work I do is spline based, almost the same as vector. If I can help, please let me know.

That's wonderful news

I'm drawing everyone in inkscape (or redrawing as the case might be) I can now use your photos as reference points in some of the drawings and then we could make versions with both diagrams and photos which would be pretty much complete.

Unknown-Two In reply to ??? [2009-07-18 22:39:43 +0000 UTC]

Spotted an error.

You've grouped Socket AM3 with Socket AM2 and AM2+, which isn't correct. Socket AM2 and AM2+ are 940 pin (which you've noted), but socket AM3 is 941 pin.

Seems like AM3 needs its own section.

Sonic840 In reply to Unknown-Two [2009-07-18 23:25:56 +0000 UTC]

aye... the unreleased processor socket are like a moving target, Thanks for the info.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Unknown-Two In reply to Unknown-Two [2009-07-18 22:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh, it's also probably worth mentioning that although there are 941 contacts in an AM3 socket, there are really only 938 pins on the CPU.

This was done to allow AM3 CPU's to fit in AM2 and AM2+ motherboards (Since AM3 CPU's have both a DDR2 and a DDR3 memory controller), but not allow AM2 and AM2+ CPU's to fit into AM3 boards (since AM2 and AM2+ CPU's lack the DDR3 memory controller required for AM3).

Excellent Chart! BTW, while USB 3.0 might not exist physically, the shape of the new ports have been released, you could use those renders / diagrams if you want here, or just wait.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sonic840 In reply to brianlafond [2009-07-18 23:17:36 +0000 UTC]

From what I've been seeing USB 3.0 will physically be the same dimensions in order to be backwards compatible with USB 1.0-2.0. But it will have more contacts inside. I'll hold off adding a place for this port till it's been released to the public. Thanks for the comment!

Check out this board, it's the first to feature an actual port. Maybe you can get permission from them to use part of their image?
