Is having your character a hybrid bad? Because my friends character is a hybrid.

I don't like it because I think it's odd to be half one animal and half another... I mean, the only animals that hybrid in real world are dogs and cats... and that's because we force them to... and when they do their offspring come out weird, disjointed and sometimes don't survive (though, dogs have been inbreeding so much they actually sometimes come out really cute).
So I think it's weird to crossbreed a hedgehog and rabbit... just saying, in reality that doesn't make sense... their genetics aren't like humans.

1: " She's 14 yet her boobs are the size of Texas... be some what reasonable with proportions" Not only is that sexist, but is also very untrue, girls at that age can get to that size depending on their body type, hormones, and many more. [Though they are poorly drawn here.]
2: You go on about that CHARACTER and not the fact that the profile is nearly unreadable!
3: "Eyes are two different colors... Heterochromia iridium (two different-colored eyes within a single individual) and heterochromia iridis (a variety of color within a single iris) are relatively rare and result from increased or decreased pigmentation of the iris. If you don't know what that means then you shouldn't be using two different eye colors in the first place." & "The color of her fur is inconstant and unrealistic looking (colors don't blend nor make sense for a Mobian)."
This is false and should be ignored, as there is a higher chance in animals. Second they can give their character two different eye colors if they want to as it's insignificant. Third, They have a pink & Blue hedgehog, a purple bird. This can actually be pulled off nicely if it was done correctly.
4: "Looks like a cross between Blaze/Rouge/Amy/Sonia" That is a opinion.
5: "She also has Amy's boots" you do realize Amy had to buy those boots from somewhere right? There are likely a lot of pairs of those out there.
6: "She can run faster than Sonic.... *peeved*" Stop trying to "mary sue" up canons.
I understand this is a contest but you are kinda mixing up completely reasonable things with mary sue 'traits' that are not even traits.

SonicFF In reply to Atlanta-Hammy [2013-11-28 21:18:29 +0000 UTC]
1. Yes, some girls develop way faster than others and are actually rather disproportionate when it comes to their cup size versus their body mass. I have friends like that and it kinda sucks for them because they have back pains. I understand that. However, for my contest that is about a sports competition--that type of size is physically limiting to what I was asking for. Plus, the fact that yes, people come in all shapes and sizes but when creating a character--putting thought into WHY they have that boob size and what kind of personality traits come from that, gets rather complicated and most people that entered the contest (or are interested in Sonic the Hedgehog comics) don't have the background, character-building capability of being able to explain that to me in a way that makes sense... I just get big boobed characters from people who are usually just insecure about their own size.
2. So what? I was putting on the persona of what I was getting from people via the contest, it was ridiculous the amount of things I couldn't read (and I'm not talking about people who have English as a second language). It's a prime example of just things of "not to do."
3. Some people put colors together without thinking about it. My whole rant about eye color and fur color is to get people to think about what biologically makes a person (a character). Splashing colors together, is a good place to start--but I wanted my contestants to think a bit. And YES, that might be insignificant, but because it's my contest--quite frankly, my opinion about the character matters... a lot.
4. It is an opinion, but it's my opinion.
5. I'm not talking about realism here. I'm talking about pure imagination. I know that characters are inspired by others, I know that stories are based off of truth a lot of times--and our experiences shape who we are and how we think. I get it. However, for my contest, I was looking for something inspired by Amy--I was looking for someone who tried their darndest to express themselves in a character specified to my parameters--I didn't care if the drawing wasn't pretty or if the character was dull--I just cared they put thought into it, that was ultimately their own ideas.
6. What? My understanding of a Mary-Sue is based off the overwhelming amount of pure coincidences that they can solve any problem, be perfect for ever situation and match the canon characters skill levels, flawlessly. They're boring and predictable. How can I serve dynamic conversation when you already know what the other character is going to say? Or you know the character is already going to save the day? That's no fun. Keep it original and keep the traits of the character based off the characters and not off the canon of the originals.
Yes, this is a contest, but I can't just say "don't be Mary-Sue's" because not everyone understands what that means. I have to be able to explain my reasoning of what I was seeing in that time of character building, and why I didn't like it. I don't need to sugar coat what I find annoying about a character.
I do appreciate you being concerned about my attitude with this specific deviation, I do strive toward positive energy and good feedback. However, I think, gathering that you were just putting down my expressive opinion with your own opinion--that it wasn't really needed... was it?
Though I do like to have conversations about this, they're fascinating to me--I think there was a misunderstanding of my base for why I posted this the way I did.
It's easier to be blunt and specific about what I don't want. If someone has two different colored eyes, can't explain why, then I don't want it. However, if someone's character has that trait and there's a reason that pertains to the characters of the FC, then go for it. I just didn't want to take the time to try to explain that--because then I'd get a mass of "well, is this okay... what about this?"
I hope that makes sense--and I hope you take this as me just having a discussion and not an argument with you, because I do see your point.

1: Actually, Girls with large breasts can in fact still do sports with them, see when they where sports bra's or leotards or the such, the clothes is actually binds them down, making them look smaller, they are not these form fitting things you often see people drawing. [Bandages are NOT a good thing to use when binding them] Actually boob and appearance's are genetic things so it should depend on their parents mostly, see i am germen and 4'10, but i have like..C or D cups, and only way about 100 pounds. D is the advantage size for germen from what I have been told.
2: Being able to read the characters profile is actually VERY important, because if you can't read it, you can mistake information and not know anything about the character. Writing is also important to a character and not just their appearance/Art... I still think it should of been mentioned.
3: Well, I think it should of been put in a different way then, as I have seen people dye their hair rainbow and look gorgeous...Sad to say a lot of people don't know about color theory so just say "No random colors!" isn't' really telling them how to put colors together. But eye color does not apply to that, again it depends on parents genetics. [like one parent has pink eyes while the other has purple]
4: Still, a opinion.. Just because it's a 'opinion' of what a Mary sue is, does not mean it's a mary sue...Because quite often i see the opinion that any female character that gets in the way of shipping is a mary sue <:I Or a strong Female character...[but then again she's often matched with the word "Bitch" when that happens.]
5: Yes, but with making a character you do have to apply some realism to it. Even anime hair has it
6: See, Here is the thing, there is in fact something faster then sonic's "Speed of sound" it's speed of light, and there is in fact something faster then that! While sonic's case is hard, it still falls into the knowledge that there will always be someone better then them. If they where the only one that could do that one thing, then that would be a mary sue thing because it says "look at me! I'm a special snowflake! I can do something no one but me can!"
I want to point out there is in fact a character in the world that can solve any problem [well most], and his name is Sherlock holms. The thing is, I believe what I am trying to say is, these types of traits can be written and be written quite well! It just depends on the skill and knowledge of the writer, because even flaws can be written pretty badly to make them look 'mary sueish' or a perfectly acceptable character can end up being predictable and boring.
I understand, I'm just trying to say is that maybe these ways could have been explained different and sound less vuge and restricting, like it did to me.
Naaa I was just pointing out maybe it could be explained better for next time cx I saw this was a bit old, but maybe I could still help explain things a bit? I'm not very good at explaining my self due to some disability's but i was trying to make a effort.
It makes sense to me cx and my lord i am sorry for the wall of text

1. Right, I have a friend and we're in a Musical together and she's a fantastic dancer. However, she's got a size H cup but her inches around are the same as mine (and I have an A cup). So her ribcage is tiny but she's got big German tata's. She complains about them rather a lot and is planning to have them reduced. So I know it's possible, but when creating a character with big boobs I don't see the thought sometimes that people put into it other then they want their character to have big boobs... which is fine, again--I just want them to think about it, since they're creating it.
2. This is true, but I'm a teacher so I can read most handwriting--and I usually clarify so it's not a big deal to me (my siblings are also dyslexic so their spelling is atrocious but I can usually interpret their spellings and weird word placements). So, that's why it doesn't bother me as much.
3. Right... but I can't give an entire lesson on coordinating complimentary colors with accents... in a contest--some of my contestants are like... younger then 12, so it doesn't matter that much to me--but I don't want them to just put rainbow colors if they, again don't have a reason other then they didn't want to choose a color. Like, someone dying their hair and trying to stand out with rainbow hair is WAY DIFFERENT then just painting someone with rainbow hair for no reason... if that makes sense.
4. Right--however, you didn't dispute my opinion about a Mary-Sue so I guess that means you probably agree with it in some way. And I see that too, and that's not what I think a Mary-Sue is, obviously... or else I would have said it.
5. Thank you That's nice to have understanding and I get the boot thing, but--again, it's all about them creating a character out of their own head and not copying. That was the goal I was trying to reach.
6. Again, you're correct, however--Sonic though can run really, really fast does have some personality flaws that come with his strength--such as being really narcissistic.
Right, but to reiterate on what I just said on 6... Sherlock Holmes is a terrible person to invite over for tea, terribly narcissistic, socially awkward and can't really keep a relationship. However, he's amazingly witty and seems to have an eidetic memory for information. But, those personality quirks make sense and what make him an awesome character (because he's relatable). Now, if he was smart and also socially competent, really suave and debonair that's weaning on the side of a sociopath--which, would be troubling.
And I would like to explain it very thoroughly, but I find that a wall a text is something that most people don't read. I tried via journal entry but no one was fallowing the rules--so I made a deviation about it that the majority of the population looked at, versus my specified writings. So, I agree about being more explanatory with what I mean. But, because I was vague it gave those who could be the exception to the rules about character specifics could do what they wanted and still be considered very good contestants--but those who didn't have the capability at that moment to understand what I wanted, it gave them a guideline they could stick to, to have at least a bit of a chance.
Woo! Wall of text!

1: Completely understandable. [I can feel her pain 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
2: Ahhh mk! That makes a bit more sense now [I have dyslexia myself.]
3: Ahh I get where you are coming from. [To be honest some people do dye their hair for no reason xD if you count "I wanna see how it looks / I think it's cool" i not a good reason]
4: Yes to some degree, but there is a actual definition to what a sue is, and it apples all around no matter what type of character it is, fandom or not and a mary sue is not made by just 1 trait, it's a combination of traits. Believe it or not "Mary Sue" came from the Star trek fandom, and it was actually made to mock female power fantasy characters, because the creator read some star trek fanfiction and the character with literally named "Mary sue" and is still used and such a way..only much more sexist now sadly...I think these can explain better then me
5: Completely understandable, though nothing is really 'original' I once created a character that almost looked like another popular artist's, that I had no known about, and they sent those people to harass me till i changed the design or 'deleted' the character....That should at lest be kept in mind because there are limits to hair styles and such
6: Exactly. as I said Sonic does prove to be a difficult case to top without it becoming 'obnoxious' but it can be done, it just depends on how skilled the writer is.
Oh no I understand, It's just an example of a character, if where female, would be labeled as a mary sue and villanized beyond belief despite being written so well. [Actually some interpretation of him do have those traits, but again are written well and no one blinks an eye at it...but if he was female i think there would be more outcry]
Ahh mk,
Yep XD they can be fun.

1. I could totally put that, that's a good idea.
2. Yeah, it sucks but totally manageable.
3. This is true, but there's usually an inspiration for it (such as not satisfied with the self image).
4. Ooh, it came from Star trek? That's cool, I didn't know that. Yeah, that is sad...
5. This is absolutely true, yeah--which, I don't mind that and I agree that hairstyles are limited.
6. This I also agree with.
I don't know, Amy on "Big Bang Theory" is rather like that and she's really cool. So I guess it depends on who you are talking to.

1: Cool >w< glad i could help there.
2: thankfully, i just have another thing that makes it worse on days
3: This is true. But with most people i know with dyed hair is because they think it looks nice, or it's to help even out some weird hair color [like my mom is platinum blond but as it gets longer the tips go a weird blond brown color]
4: Yeah, The term "Slash" also came from the same fandom, i think shipping is another one? I'll have to check.
5: Yeaah it's why i'm mostly okay with letting things like clothes pass unless they where specifically made for the characters, like Sonic or Shadow's shoes.
6: Mhm~ I think it might be better to put this on the "If you feel you can do it, go for it, but I'd advise not doing so as normally it's not done correctly often" I think?
Yeaah, most fandoms i see hate female characters like that..fact there is a tumblr made to collect all the reasons as to why people hate a character, and normally countering them with a argument...Some of the reasons are reaaally petty.
